AS has recently reported that Real Madrid are inching closer towards a move for Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. It is believed that Rennes are prepared to reduce their demands from €80m to just €50m for the French midfield ace which could open the door for Los Blancos to seal a move for him in the future (via AS).
Camavinga’s Steady Growth At Roazhon Park This Season
Camavinga has been a consistent feature in Julien Stephan’s first-team this season but has struggled to be productive with his contributions in the final third. He has scored one goal and grabbed two assists in 17 matches for the French outfit this term across all fronts.
However, the 18-year-old has caught the eye with his performances in Europe where he has averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.3 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League group stages. He has also distributed the ball relatively well after completing 91% of his attempted passes in European football this season (stats via whoscored).
The two-time French international is a generational talent, so the Madrid outfit will do well to lure him away from Roazhon Park in the future. At 18, he has already established himself as one of the most promising youngsters in the Ligue 1 which makes him an ideal long-term option for Zinedine Zidane to consider in January or at the end of this campaign.
What Will The French Prospect Bring To Zidane’s Team?
Camavinga is a tough-tackling central midfielder who can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his side. He excels at sensing the danger quickly and is often tidy with his passing at the centre of the park.
The French whizkid is not shy of producing a tireless shift for the benefit of his team but needs to add a few more goals and assists to his game if he intends to become a world-class talent in the future. Hence, it makes a lot of sense for Zidane to orchestrate a big-money move to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium soon.
Camavinga is already good enough to become a valuable squad player for the Spanish champions but might struggle to break into the first-team as he will face competition from Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde and Luka Modric. However, Real Madrid has an ageing midfield department with Modric and Kroos both on the wrong side of their 30s. Therefore, recruiting Camavinga will be a massive coup for Los Blancos as he is a player who could potentially become one of the best midfielders in world football someday.
