Premier League giants Chelsea lost back-to-back matches in the competition tonight after a frustrating 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers. The London club were coming into this fixture on the back of a frustrating 1-0 loss to Everton last weekend, and it looked like the hangover from that result carried on. The Blues were unable to control the fixture quite as much as they would usually do, despite which a goal from Olivier Giroud put them ahead. Daniel Podence then scored a deflected equaliser, before Pedro Neto smashed home the winner in second half stoppage time.
Here Are The Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers:
Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Edouard Mendy – 6
The Senegalese international couldn’t have been blamed for either of the Wolves goals tonight. First one deflected away from him while the second was hit with too much power.
Reece James – 6
The Englishman wasn’t able to produce the quality of delivery that he is actually capable of in the final third. Struggled to impact the tie and looked rather shabby defensively as well.
Kurt Zouma – 4
The Frenchman had an extremely poor outing in the second half as he was given a torrid time by Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence. Should’ve stood stronger ahead of both Chelsea goals.
Thiago Silva- 5.5
Not everything that the Brazilian veteran tried actually paid off for him, as he played a number of misplaced passes. Found it difficult to deal with the raw pace of the Wolves attackers.
Ben Chilwell – 5
The Englishman was constantly getting caught out of position on the flank, and the Chelsea goal seemed to only make things harder for him. Played in a good cross to find Giroud though.
N’Golo Kante – 5
The Frenchman was far from his best in the core of the team tonight as his defensive contributions were extremely limited. Seemed a bit clueless when going forward as well.
Mason Mount – 6
The Englishman tried to make things happen in the final third but he wasn’t able to impact in the manner that he would’ve liked. Played some sharp passes and worked quite hard tracking back.
Kai Havertz – 5
The German starlet had yet another stinker in the Chelsea midfield tonight as he struggled to make the ball stick. Misplaced some extremely simple passes and never looked up to the pace.
Christian Pulisic – 6.5
Although the American wasn’t anywhere nearly as good as he can be, he showed in moments just what this Chelsea attack line has been missing out on over recent weeks.
Olivier Giroud – 6
Tried to hold the ball up but wasn’t able to get into the game apart from the opening half an hour. Did well to stretch his leg and score the goal but needs to offer more inside the box.
Timo Werner – 5.5
The German started the game quite brightly but slowly fizzled out in the second half. Played a flurry of poor passes out and never looked confident when taking on a man either.
Substitutes
Mateo Kovacic – 5.5
The Croatian added a much-needed dose of energy into the Chelsea engine room, but he wasn’t able to produce any quality. Did well to drive forward with the ball at times.
Tammy Abraham – 5
The striker wasn’t able to make the ball stick for him in the final third and even saw a number of poor refereeing decisions not go his way.
