Real Madrid will face off against Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday night hoping to pick up a win and secure progression into the knockout phases of the UEFA Champions League. Los Blancos have been poor in Europe this season and lost their last group stage match against Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this month.
The Madrid giants will set themselves up in a 4-3-3 formation and could be boosted by the return of Sergio Ramos ahead of this big European game in midweek. At the other end, Marco Asensio and Vinicius Junior are expected to support Karim Benzema up top.
4-3-3 Real Madrid Predicted Lineup To Face Borussia Monchengladbach
Defence
Thibaut Courtois will lineup in between the sticks for the Madrid outfit after he secured a clean sheet against Sevilla last weekend. Raphael Varane will partner Sergio Ramos at the heart of Zinedine Zidane’s defence as they look to keep the Monchengladbach attackers at bay in midweek.
Ferland Mendy could get the nod to feature at left-back while Lucas Vazquez looks to put on another impressive display on the other flank as the right-back. Zidane will ask both his full-backs to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack so that they can maintain a good defensive shape and also provide adequate support to their teammates in the final third.
Álvaro Odriozola will be available for selection on the bench but might come on in the second half if needed.
Midfield
The Madrid midfield will be comprised of Martin Ødegaard, Casemiro and Toni Kroos as they focus on retaining possession at the centre of the park and engineer some decent openings for the front players up top. The all-round performance of the talented trio could very well end up determining the outcome of this contest, so Zidane will be hoping that they can perform at a high level collectively to earn maximum points from this must-win game.
Luka Modric will have to settle for a spot on the bench but could come on as a substitute to influence the game in the latter stages if required.
Attack
Vinicius Junior will operate on the left-wing while Marco Asensio fills in on the other side as the right-sided wide player. The Madrid wing-men will have to figure out a way to orchestrate a few clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities for Karim Benzema, who will lead the line for Los Blancos down the middle.
Both Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz are major doubts for this game and will be in a race against time to be fit for this clash on Wednesday night.
