English giants Chelsea dropped further points in the Premier League tonight after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. Although the Blues’ performance was certainly an improvement on what they produced on the weekend against Arsenal, it wasn’t anywhere close to the expected level. The London club opened the scoring in good style, after a sharp near-post header from Olivier Giroud caught Emiliano Martinez off guard. Anwar El Ghazi then scored the leveller in the second half, bringing the Villans back into the game. A Ben Chilwell volley in stoppage time is as close as Chelsea came from that point, as the two clubs left Stamford Bridge with the points shared.
Here Are The Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Aston Villa:
Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Aston Villa
Edouard Mendy – 6
The Senegalese stopper made one extremely smart save in the first-half, but the El Ghazi effort was taken from far too close for him to have a real chance of making the stop.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 6
The Spanish centre-half could’ve done a better job dealing with the Villa goal, but he defended well apart from that. Wasn’t able to create enough going forward though.
Andreas Christensen – 6
The Danish centre-half was solid for the most part, but he’s the player who went down and left Chelsea vulnerable ahead of the Villa goal. Made a couple of important interceptions too.
Antonio Rudiger – 7
The German was neat and tidy with his defending, and he put up a dominant display in the heart of defence. Won a number of key headers and didn’t allow space to run in behind.
Ben Chilwell – 7
The Englishman’s movement and offensive abilities were on full display tonight as it was his ball that led to the Blues’ goal. Looked the likeliest to create something and came close late on.
Jorginho – 6
The Italian didn’t make mistakes in defence, and in fact, he had a rather positive impact at the back. However, he played a couple of loose passes and seemed to slow the game down.
N’Golo Kante – 6.5
The Frenchman’s work-rate and energy were one of the main reasons that Chelsea were able to dominate possession for large chunks. Should’ve tracked the Villa runner ahead of the goal.
Mason Mount – 7.5
The Englishman was, without a doubt, the Blues’ best player tonight as he picked the ball up in some key positions in the core of the team. Drove forward well and looked threatening.
Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6.5
The youngster was given a rare Premier League start tonight and it be conceded that he did an impressive job. Never hesitant to carry the ball himself and looked promising.
Olivier Giroud – 6.5
The Frenchman wasn’t able to impact the tie quite as much as he would’ve liked, but he stepped up when it mattered to score a neat number nine’s goal. Held the ball up well too.
Christian Pulisic – 6.5
The American wasn’t at his rampant best tonight but he did manage to produce a few moments of real quality. Needs to be quicker when driving into the box as he seems to be unsure.
Substitutes
Timo Werner – 6
The German was thrown on in the late stages of the tie. He had one shot go high and wide, but apart from that, didn’t have time to make too much of an impact.
Kai Havertz – 6
Like his German compatriot, Havertz had very little time to really apply himself. Made some good turns in midfield and looked pretty sharp in moments.
