Premier League giants Chelsea dropped further points in the league tonight after a frustrating 3-1 defeat at the hands of London rivals Arsenal. The Blues were coming into this fixture hoping to make it back to back wins, but it was the Gunners who won their first game since the start of November instead. Reece James gave away a rather soft penalty in the first-half, which Alexandre Lacazette slotted home. Granit Xhaka scored a good free-kick to double the home side’s advantage, while Bukayo Saka scored the third goal in the second half. Tammy Abraham got Chelsea’s only goal of the tie, as Jorginho went on to miss a penalty at the start of stoppage time.
Here Are The Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Arsenal:
Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Arsenal
Edouard Mendy – 5
The Senegalese stopper couldn’t have done all that much about any of the Arsenal goals, but he did have a couple of questionable moments in the second half. Needs to get back into form.
Reece James – 4
The Englishman struggled to deal with the Arsenal attacks down his side, and the fact that he wasn’t fully fit was apparent to see. Gave away the penalty, albeit with limited contact.
Kurt Zouma – 5
The Frenchman had a couple of good defensive moments, but he didn’t have his usual impact in front of Mendy. Won some key headers and looked threatening in attack as well.
Thiago Silva – 5
The veteran centre-half was given a tough time by the Arsenal attackers tonight as the Blues struggled to cope with the movement that Arsenal produced. Good while attacking though.
Ben Chilwell – 5
Like Reece James on the other flank, the fact that he was injured was more than apparent to see. Tried to impact the tie offensively but offered very little penetration as Arsenal dominated.
N’Golo Kante – 5
The Frenchman didn’t have his usual influence in the defensive third as he was constantly being surpassed by the Arsenal forwards. Needs to offer more creativity in the attacking phase.
Mateo Kovacic – 4.5
The Croatian was unsurprisingly subbed off at half-time as Chelsea failed to take any sort of control in the midfield area in the first half. Looked abysmal as the Gunners piled on the pressure.
Mason Mount – 6
The Englishman looked desperate to create an opening for the Blues in the first half, as his dribbling and movement were both good.
Timo Werner – 4.5
The German was poor once again in the first half as Lampard mercilessly replaced him at the halfway mark. Didn’t do enough going forward and looked poor with the ball at his feet.
Tammy Abraham – 5
The striker offered very little in the offensive third over the tie, but he did step up and score what would turn out to be Chelsea’s consolation goal. Needs to hold the ball up better.
Christian Pulisic – 5
The American international had a couple of moments of brilliance over the course of the fixture, but it must be conceded that he’s still miles off the form he produced during his first season.
Substitutes
Callum Hudson-Odoi – 5
The Englishman didn’t do anywhere near enough after coming on, but it must be taken into account that he looked a lot more threatening than Werner.
Jorginho – 5
The Italian international added a bit more composure to the Chelsea midfield, but he was guilty of striking a poor penalty in the late stages of the tie.
Kai Havertz – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
