Manchester City entertained West Bromwich Albion at the Etihad Stadium earlier tonight hoping to pick up a victory at home. The home side were the dominant team in the first half and took the lead in the 30th-minute courtesy of Ilkay Gundogan’s goal. However, the Baggies found the equaliser just 13 minutes later when Ruben Dias scored an unfortunate own goal. Both teams went into the half-time interval with nothing to split them.
The Mancunian outfit kept pushing in the second 45 minutes but were denied by some valiant West Brom defending as the contest finished 1-1 after the full-time whistle with both sides sharing the spoils.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player fared during the match against the Baggies.
GK: Ederson – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper didn’t have too much to do in the game other than picking the ball up once from the back of his net.
RB: Joao Cancelo – 6/10
Cancelo was a constant threat in the opposition half but struggled to deliver the killer ball in the final third.
CB: Ruben Dias – 5.5/10
The Man City centre-half didn’t do too much wrong in the game and was desperately unlucky to score an own goal after the ball deflected off him into an empty net.
CB: Nathan Ake – 7/10
The ex-Bournemouth talent was a commanding presence inside his half and kept the ball moving well out from the back.
LB: Benjamin Mendy – 6/10
Mendy was defensively solid but lacked the cutting edge in the opposition half. He got replaced in the second half.
CM: Rodri – 6.5/10
The Spaniard protected his backline well but lacked invention with his passes going forward.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 8/10
The German midfield ace scored the opening goal with a composed finish from close range. He was a constant threat with his late runs into the opposition penalty box but squandered some decent chances to score the decisive second goal.
RM: Raheem Sterling – 7.5/10
The English speedster set-up Gundogan’s opening goal with a good pass and was always willing to get in-behind the opposition backline with his tireless running.
CAM: Kevin De Bruyne – 7.5/10
The Belgian international created some glorious chances for his teammates to win the game in the second half, but unfortunately for him, none of them managed to find the back of the net.
LM: Phil Foden – 6.5/10
The talented youngster worked hard but struggled to find the finishing touch in front of the opponent’s goal.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 6/10
The Brazilian striker produced a tireless shift but never looked like he had a goal in him.
Substitutes:
RB: Kyle Walker – 6/10
He brought some energy onto the field.
ST: Sergio Aguero – 6/10
The Argentine marksman wasted a decent chance to net the winner after coming off the bench.
