According to Eldesmarque, Rafa Mujica is facing an uncertain future at Real Oviedo. The youngster had joined the Spanish club on a season-long loan deal from Leeds United in the summer. But, it appears his spell in the Segunda division outfit could be cut short after failing to make his breakthrough. Leeds United may also have to decide on his future, with the player now courted by Spanish third-tier club Marbella FC.
Mujica’s Spell At Real Oviedo This Season
A former member of La Masia academy in Barcelona, Mujica hasn’t had a great record when it comes to his loan spells. Since joining Leeds in 2019, the forward had spent two spells on loan to Extremadura and Villarreal CF B respectively, but neither of them were successful as he eventually returned to Elland Road in the summer.
However, the 22-year-old was once again shipped to Real Oviedo following the club’s promotion to the top-flight. The move, though, is yet to pay off for Marcelo Bielsa’s men as Mujica has struggled with a lack of game-time in the ongoing campaign.
The striker has featured in just 50 minutes of action in the Segunda Division, falling behind Samuel Obeng in the pecking order. Although coach Cuco Ziganda had publicly stated his wish to keep hold of Mujica earlier in the campaign, he has been left disappointed with the result so far. And hence, it appears the 22-year-old may soon have to bid his farewell to the Oviedo fans.
Does Mujica Have Any Future At Leeds United?
During his ongoing 18 month spell at Leeds United, Mujica hasn’t really spent much time at Elland Road, enduring three back to back loan spells away in Spain. He was, in fact, brought in as a member of the U-23 squad rather than the first-team.
And although there is no doubt about the quality he possesses, the 22-year-old still has to prove himself, at least in the English lower divisions before he can earn a more prominent role in the senior side. It also appears likely that the Whites might sign a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window while youngster Sam Greenwood might soon be pushing for a promotion.
The ideal option for Mujica, therefore, will be to find another loan move away from Elland Road. Alternatively, the ex-La Masia youngster could remain in Yorkshire and play for the reserve side, where he could compete with Greenwood and Max McMillan. It will also be interesting to see whether the club considers any potential offer from Marbella FC in this upcoming January transfer window.
