Frank Lampard’s high-flying Chelsea side will be eager to maintain their excellent run of form in the league when they welcome Leeds United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday night. The Blues are coming into this fixture on the back of a dominant 4-0 away victory against Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday. Although Lampard opted to make a whopping nine changes to the team for the clash, the London club looked extremely comfortable from start to finish. That result highlighted the pure strength and sheer depth of the squad that Lampard has at his disposal.
The Blues’ only defeat over ninety minutes this season came against Liverpool in the second week of the league campaign, that too because they played a majority of that outing with only ten men out on the pitch. Since that point, the Pensioners have been moving from strength to strength, and as things stand, them, along with Tottenham, are the teams to beat. How long Chelsea are able to keep this run of form is something that only time will tell, but if some of the football they’ve produced over recent weeks is anything to go by, then Leeds United have quite the task on their hands this weekend.
Team News
For the first time since the start of the season, Frank Lampard’s side doesn’t have a single injury concern to deal with. The return of Billy Gilmour was the one thing that Chelsea fans had been eagerly waiting for, and now that the young Scot has made his way back into the team as well, the manager has a full roster to choose his eleven from.
Here Is The Predicted 4-3-3 Chelsea Lineup Vs Leeds United:
Predicted 4-3-3 Chelsea Lineup Vs Leeds United
Defence
Since the arrival of Edouard Mendy from Rennes during the summer window, Kepa Arrizabalaga has had no playing time whatsoever. That trend is likely to continue as well, with the Senegalese international set to keep the number one role for this outing. In front of him, expect the centre-half duo of Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva to start. They were both rested for the midweek match, and should be fresh for this outing. Reece James and Ben Chilwell were also rested in the match against Sevilla, and are hence likely to come into the team.
Midfield
The London club’s midfield line has been extremely important to the progress they’ve made this season. Although often overlooked, the influence that N’Golo Kante has had on the core of the side has been massive to say the least. In front of him, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount are expected to start in the two number eight roles. While Mount will be the Blues’ pressing catalyst in the middle of the park, Kovacic’s dribbling abilities could come into play as well.
Attack
Considering the four goals that Olivier Giroud scored against Sevilla in midweek, there’s every chance that Lampard opts to give the French veteran a game from the start against the Whites. As good as Abraham has been, it would be criminal not to give the former Arsenal man a start after the game that he just had. The usual wingers of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner should start in the wide areas for this clash, where they will be supported by the full-backs, and hence be allowed to cut inside and directly affect the play.
