Premier League giants Chelsea fell to what was only their second defeat of the league campaign after a frustrating 1-0 loss at the hands of former Stamford Bridge manager Carlo Ancelotti. The London giants started the game in the ascendancy, but it was an unfortunate decision from Edouard Mendy that handed Everton a chance to take the initiative. Gylfi Sigurdsson made no mistakes from the spot, as Lampard’s men went behind early on. Despite dominating possession, the London club failed to find their rhythm in attack. Reece James and Mason Mount both hit the post, and that’s as close as they came to scoring a goal.
Here Are The Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Everton
Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Everton
Edouard Mendy – 6
The Senegalese international gave away the penalty that led to the Everton goal in the first half, but he was well within his right to come for the ball. Made a couple of smart saves over the ninety too.
Reece James – 7.5
The Englishman was undoubtedly the Blues’ best player on the pitch tonight as he got forward well and tried to make things happen in attack. Defended strongly and played some good crosses.
Kurt Zouma – 6.5
The Frenchman was dominant in the air against the Everton attackers, and he faced up Richarlison really well. Didn’t allow too many runs in behind but was beaten on a couple of instances.
Thiago Silva – 6
The Brazilian got pulled out of position on a couple of occasions but didn’t make any mistakes in defence as such. Looked a bit less sharp than usual when moving the ball forward though.
Ben Chilwell – 6.5
The Englishman tried to get forward and link up the play, but he wasn’t able to deliver the required quality in the final third. Caught out of position on a few instances as Iwobi charged forward.
N’Golo Kante – 6.5
The Frenchman didn’t misplace too many passes during the tie and ensured to keep the ball moving from side to side. Didn’t have too much mopping up to do tonight as Everton sat back.
Mateo Kovacic – 6.5
The Croatian international was neat and tidy with his passing in the final third, and he picked up some positions in attack as well. Wasn’t able to produce the required penetration though.
Mason Mount – 6.5
The Englishman worked hard off the ball and came extremely close to scoring with a free-kick that struck the post. Made some good forward runs but wasn’t able to get into the box as much as needed.
Kai Havertz – 5
The German had a rather poor game down the left flank tonight as he struggled to make the ball stick. Played multiple loose passes and didn’t have the impact Lampard would’ve hoped for.
Olivier Giroud – 5.5
The Frenchman struggled to get into the game tonight as he was constantly being harried off the ball by the Everton defenders. Wasn’t able to hold the ball up and wasted a good chance late on.
Timo Werner – 7
The German looked the player likeliest to produce something for Chelsea in attack tonight as his movement and pace were on display on a few occasions. Well watched by the Toffees.
Substitutes
Tammy Abraham – 6
Thrown on by Lampard in the second half as the Blues pushed for an equaliser. Was nothing more than a mere spectator after coming into the game though.
Billy Gilmour – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
