Manchester City will entertain Olympique Marseille at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night having already booked a place in the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s men managed to secure a comfortable 2-0 win at home against Fulham last weekend which will keep their confidence flowing heading into this midweek clash versus the French giants.
The Mancunian outfit will probably set themselves up in a 4-3-3 formation with Guardiola expected to make some changes to his starting XI for this upcoming showdown in Europe. The Man City boss will be inclined to hand some of his first-team stars a well-deserved rest.
4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Marseille
Defence
Ederson will operate in between the sticks for Man City after he kept four clean sheets in a row across all competitions. Eric Garcia will lineup alongside Nathan Ake at the centre of Guardiola’s defence as they try to stop Marseille from finding the back of the net in midweek.
Oleksandr Zinchenko will feature at left-back while Joao Cancelo looks to impress on the other flank as the right-back. Guardiola will ask both of them to keep a good shape at the back and create some decent chances from the wide areas as well.
Midfield
Guardiola’s midfield will be comprised of Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Fernandinho as they focus on dominating possession at the centre of the park. Both Rodri and Fernandinho will assume the duties of the holding midfielders while Silva gets the freedom to express himself in the opposition half.
Kevin De Bruyne will be rested in midweek, so Ilkay Gundogan could make up the numbers on the bench.
Attack
Phil Foden will hope to produce a productive display on the left flank while Riyad Mahrez tries to do the same from the right. Ferran Torres could once again get the responsibility to lead the line for Man City down the middle.
Sergio Aguero will be sidelined for this game because of an injury. Still, he will be in contention to play a part in this weekend’s derby against Manchester United in the Premier League. However, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling will be available for selection on the bench and could come on to influence the game in the second 45 minutes if needed.
