Everton played hosts to Arsenal at Goodison Park earlier this evening looking to pick up maximum points at home. The Toffees made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 22nd minute courtesy of an unfortunate own goal from Rob Holding. However, Nicolas Pepe equalised for the Gunners from the penalty spot in the 35th minute. Yerry Mina helped his team regain their lead in the 45th minute with his headed goal which meant that the Merseyside outfit went into the half-time interval 2-1 up on the scoreline.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men defended well in the second 45 minutes to claim a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the North London outfit.
Let’s take a look at how Everton player fared during the clash against the Gunners.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6/10
The English keeper was hardly troubled by the Gunners attackers but did his job when called into action. However, his ball-distribution was poor and he will be disappointed for not keeping a clean sheet.
RB: Mason Holgate – 6.5/10
Holgate put in solid performance at the back and even created one good chance in the opposition half. Ancelotti will be happy with his overall impact today.
CB: Yerry Mina – 8/10
Mina marshalled his backline well and did enough to restrict the Gunners from scoring from open play during the 90 minutes. He also scored just before half-time which was enough to make the difference this evening.
CB: Michael Keane – 7/10
Keane made multiple important clearances throughout the match and provided enough protection defensively to see out the three points in the end.
LB: Ben Godfrey – 7/10
He had to do a lot of defending and to his credit, he stood up the test quite well and gave a good account of himself inside his half. However, Godfrey failed to come up with anything meaningful going forward.
CM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7.5/10
The Icelandic international will be content after picking up an assist for setting up Mina’s goal from a corner in the 45th minute. He worked hard to help out in defence but was relatively quiet in the second half.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6.5/10
Doucoure produced another hard-working display at the centre of the park but struggled to influence the game in the final third.
CM: Tom Davies – 6/10
Davies commited too many cheap fouls and had a tough afternoon at Goodison Park.
RW: Alex Iwobi – 5.5/10
He was mostly annonymous in the attacking third and put in a lacklustre performance against his old club.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7/10
The English striker caused a lot of problems for the Arsenal centre-backs but there was no goal for him in the end.
LW: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian winger made a couple of driving runs but was largely frustrated during his time on the field.
Substitutes:
RM: Seamus Coleman – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
ST: Cenk Tosun – N/A
Tosun did not get adequate minutes to warrant a rating.
LM: Jonjoe Kenny – N/A
He came off the bench to run the clock down in injury-time.
