Everton faced off against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane earlier tonight looking to secure a win on their travels. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but struggled to make the decisive breakthrough as they went into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
The Merseyside outfit kept pushing on in search of the opener and finally managed to break the deadlock courtesy of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s tidy finish from close range. The contest ended with Carlo Ancelotti’s men grabbing all three points after emerging victorious by a narrow 1-0 scoreline away at Yorkshire.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the match against the Blades.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6.5/10
The Toffees goalie did his job when called into action and made a couple of saves during the game to earn a well-deserved clean sheet.
RB: Mason Holgate – 8/10
The English defensive ace maintained a solid shape at the back and was always willing to clear the danger when needed. Offensively, he was a decent outlet for the Toffees down the right flank.
CB: Yerry Mina – 8/10
Mina commanded his penalty area with authority and conviction. He made multiple clearances to restrict the Blades from scoring during the 90 minutes.
CB: Michael Keane – 7/10
Keane performed his defensive duties well and would be happy after bagging the all-important clean sheet away from home.
LB: Ben Godfrey – 7/10
Godfrey showed a lot of fight and hunger when he got on the ball and didn’t do too much wrong on the defensive end of the pitch.
CM: Tom Davies – 7/10
The English midfield ace was full of energy and running. He completed a few promising dribbles during his time on the field before getting substituted in the second half.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7.5/10
Doucoure helped his teammates out inside his half and was also the one who set-up Sigurdsson’s winning goal in the 80th minute.
LW: Anthony Gordon – 6/10
Gordon showed great maturity to cover for Godfrey at times in defence but failed to make himself useful in the final third.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 8.5/10
The Icelandic international caused a lot of headaches for the Sheffield United defenders and popped with the winning goal in the 80th minute when he found the back of the net with a controlled strike.
RW: Alex Iwobi – 7.5/10
Iwobi was bright and lively when in possession of the ball and made some dangerous runs towards the opponent’s penalty box. However, he will be disappointed for not getting a goal or assist to his name tonight.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6/10
The English striker was guilty of squandering a glorious chance to give his team the lead. However, he deserves credit for working tirelessly to run the channels in the final third.
Substitutes:
LW: Bernard – 7/10
The Brazilian playmaker produced a great cameo off the bench and played his part in the lead-up to Sigurdsson’s winning goal.
CB: Seamus Coleman – 6/10
Coleman was mostly untroubled on the defensive end of the field.
CM: Andre Gomes – 7/10
The Portuguese talent added some energy and dynamism to Everton’s midfield.
