In a recent report, Calciomercato has claimed that Brentford forward Ivan Toney is on Everton‘s radar. It is understood that the Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti is hoping to strengthen his attacking department and has identified the English forward as a potential option in the future (via Calciomercato).
Toney’s Impressive Form At West London This Season
The 24-year-old has made an electric start to this campaign after putting in a series of productive displays as the focal point of Thomas Frank’s attack. Toney has banged in 13 goals and provided two assists in 17 matches for the Bees this term across all fronts.
The Northampton-born talent has done well to average 2.5 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship. However, he has been sloppy when linking up play with his teammates as he has completed only 69.6% of his attempted passes in the English second tier (stats via whoscored).
Toney is currently under contract at the Brentford Community Stadium until the summer of 2025, so it won’t be easy for the Toffees to orchestrate a move to secure his services in January or at the end of this campaign.
What Will The Bees Attacker Bring To The Table?
Toney has got decent pace in his locker and can use his agility to cause some problems for the opposition defenders. He has also got a great leap in him that allows him to win a few aerial duels for his team. The English frontman has transformed himself into a consistent goalscorer in the EFL Championship. Still, the jury is out on whether he can maintain his high standards in the Premier League where he will be tested both physically and psychologically week in week out.
Is Toney The Right Choice For Carlo Ancelotti?
At the moment, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has got Dominic Calvert-Lewin as his primary centre-forward. However, his back-up, Cenk Tosun has struggled to give a good account of himself during his spell at Goodison Park. Hence, someone of Toney’s skill set could be an upgrade over the Turkish marksman in the coming seasons.
At 24, Toney is currently about to embark upon the prime years of his playing career, so Ancelotti should consider recruiting him if he is confident about getting the best out of him in the years to come. He will keep Calvert-Lewin on his toes and could potentially be a good option for Ancelotti to call upon off the bench. All in all, Toney will be a decent choice for the Merseyside outfit in the long-run as he will only get better with each season.
