Liverpool locked horns with Fulham at Craven Cottage earlier today hoping to secure maximum points on the road. The Reds were woeful in the first 45 minutes and were completely dominated by the home team. The Cottagers got themselves ahead in the 25th minute courtesy of Bobby Reid’s goal and went into the half-time break with a narrow one-goal advantage.
The Merseyside outfit came roaring back in the second half and finally established their stranglehold in the game. They were awarded a penalty in the 79th minute which Mohamed Salah converted to level the scoreline. Jurgen Klopp’s men were left frustrated by some valiant Fulham defending as the contest finished 1-1 with both sides sharing the points.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the game against the Cottagers.
GK: Alisson Becker – 8/10
The Brazilian keeper made some important saves in the first 45 minutes to keep his team in the game. He also made a world-class stop just after the half-time break but was largely untroubled after that incident.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 5/10
The English full-back looked tired and way off the pace. However, he did deliver some inviting crosses into the Fulham penalty box.
CB: Joel Matip – 4/10
Matip looked like he was carrying an injury and produced a lacklustre display in the first half. He got subbed at half-time.
CB: Fabinho – 6/10
The Brazilian talent was luckily not to give away a penalty in the first half and was caught ball-watching quite a few times. He calmed himself and bossed the game in the second 45 minutes.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 6/10
The Scottish full-back produced another energetic display down the left flank, but his final delivery let him down more often than not.
CM: Curtis Jones – 7/10
The English midfielder failed to influence the game in the first half. However, he brought some control back in the Liverpool midfield and almost scored a wonderful solo goal with his lung-bursting run in the second half.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 6/10
Like most of his teammates, he was too slow in the first half. However, it was his freekick that led to Liverpool being awarded a penalty which Salah scored to rescue a point.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 6/10
The Liverpool captain failed to get a foothold in midfield early on but recovered well and produced a dominant display as a makeshift centre-back after the half-time break.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 7/10
The Egyptian winger kept his calm to score the penalty but should have got a few more goals during the game. However, he was not clinical in the final third.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 7/10
The Brazilian striker worked hard but struggled to get himself involved in the first half. Still, he put in a much-improved performance in the second 45 minutes.
LW: Sadio Mane – 6/10
The Senegalese winger looked like a player out of form in the first 45 minutes. However, he deserves credit for creating a lot of problems for the Cottagers after the half-time interval.
Substitutes:
CM: Takumi Minamino – 5/10
It is difficult to see what he brings to this Liverpool team based on his performance today. The Japanese international was often overpowered in midfield, but to his credit, he kept fighting for possession until the very end.
RB: Neco Williams – 6/10
He brought some energy on the right flank and was defensively solid during his time on the field.
ST: Divock Origi – N/A
He did not get enough time to make an impact.
