Liverpool will clash heads with Newcastle United on Wednesday night hoping to return to winning ways in the Premier League. The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by West Bromwich Albion at Anfield last weekend, which will make them desperate for the three points in midweek.
Jurgen Klopp will probably stick with his favourite 4-3-3 formation and will be forced to bring Rhys Williams back in his starting XI for this clash at Tyneside. Joel Matip picked up an injury versus the Baggies which could rule him out of this game.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Newcastle United
Defence
Alisson Becker will retain his place in goal for the Reds after failing to keep a clean sheet versus West Brom in his last league start. Rhys Williams is expected to get a start alongside Fabinho at the heart of the Liverpool backline as they look to stop Newcastle’s Callum Wilson from finding the back of the net in midweek.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will continue to feature at right-back while Andrew Robertson looks to create some decent chances on the other side as the left-back. Klopp will ask both of them to deliver some inviting crosses into the Magpies penalty area so that they can offer adequate ammunition to the front players.
Matip’s exclusion could mean that Nathaniel Phillips will be guaranteed a place on the bench as he provides cover for the centre-back positions.
Midfield
The Reds midfield could be comprised of James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson. The experienced trio will look to win the midfield battle and establish Liverpool’s dominance at the centre of the park. They have to be more creative with their passing so that the front three can get enough chances to win the game.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones will be available for selection on the bench but could come on to influence the game in the second 45 minutes if required.
Attack
Sadio Mane will once again get the nod to put on a productive display on the left flank while Mohamed Salah looks to do the same on the right. Roberto Firmino will lead the line for the Reds down the middle.
Both Firmino and Salah will be eager to get their names on the scoresheet following a goalless performance from them last weekend. Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri will have to be content with a spot on the bench. However, one of them might get a chance to influence the game in the latter stages if Klopp decides to call upon their services.
