Aston Villa will face off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night looking to earn a win on the road. The Villans managed to secure a dominant 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace last Saturday which will give them a lot of confidence heading into this league clash at the English capital.
Dean Smith will probably stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation and will be forced to make one change to his first-team for this game versus Frank Lampard’s men. Tyrone Mings won’t be available for selection due to suspension, so we can expect Ezri Konsa to return to Smith’s first-team on Monday.
4-2-3-1 Aston Villa Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
Defence
Emiliano Martínez will continue to feature in goal for the Villans after he kept a clean sheet in his last league outing. As mentioned earlier, Ezri Konsa will return to partner up with Kourtney Hause at the heart of the Villans backline as they try to stop Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham from scoring this weekend.
Matty Cash should get the nod to start at right-back while Matt Targett looks to produce another impressive display on the other flank as the left-back. Both full-backs are in a decent run of form and will be confident about giving a good account of themselves at Stamford Bridge.
Neil Taylor and Ahmed Elmohamady will make up the numbers on the Villa bench as they offer cover for the full-back positions.
Midfield
Douglas Luiz and John McGinn will anchor the midfield for the Villans as they focus on making life difficult for the Chelsea midfielders during the 90 minutes. The gifted trio of Anwar El Ghazi, Jack Grealish and Bertrand Traore will be unleashed just ahead of them as part of Smith’s attack. All three of them have enjoyed a rich vein of form of late, so we can expect them to pose a threat to the Blues defenders on the counter.
Conor Hourihane and Marvelous Nakamba will have to settle for a place on the bench as they wait for their opportunity to make an impact on the field if Smith decides to call upon their services.
Attack
Ollie Watkins played a hand in all of his team’s goals versus the Eagles last Saturday. Therefore, there is no question that the Villans will stick with the hard-working English striker to lead the charge up top. Keinan Davis will once again serve as Watkins’ back-up on the bench.
