Leicester City will face off against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon hoping to return to winning ways in the Premier League. The Foxes were held to a 1-1 draw away at Crystal Palace earlier this week after they decided to rest a whole host of their first-team stars for that game.
However, Brendan Rodgers is expected to name a strong team and will probably set his players up in a 3-4-2-1 formation this weekend. Both Jamie Vardy and James Maddison could return to the Leicester starting XI, but Rodgers will be sweating on the fitness of Maddison and Fofana for this clash on the road.
3-4-2-1 Leicester City Predicted Lineup To Face Newcastle United
Defence
Kasper Schmeichel will operate in goal for the Midlands outfit after failing to earn a clean sheet versus the Eagles in midweek. Rodgers is likely to go with a back three of Jonny Evans, Wesley Fofana and James Justin on Sunday. The defensive trio will focus on stopping Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson from finding the back of the net during the 90 minutes.
Leicester will be desperate to keep a shutout this weekend as they have conceded three goals in their past two league matches which have seen them lose ground at the top of the Premier League table.
Midfield
Timothy Castagne will get the nod to operate as the left wing-back while Marc Albrighton hopes to produce another industrious performance from the right flank. Youri Tielemans is expected to anchor the midfield along with Nampalys Mendy as they look to dominate possession at the centre of the park and create some decent openings for their teammates in the Magpies half.
The pacey and dynamic duo of Harvey Barnes and James Maddison, who is a slight doubt for this game, will play just ahead of them as part of the Foxes attack. Both of them will have to find a way to engineer some clear-cut chances for Jamie Vardy up top.
Hamza Choudhury and Dennis Praet could be available for selection on the bench.
Attack
Jamie Vardy will lead the line for the Foxes in the final third. The English marksman got a well-deserved rest in midweek, so he will be fresh for this game on Sunday. He has already banged in 11 goals in the league this season and will once again carry most of his team’s goal-scoring workload up top.
