Premier League giants Chelsea climbed up to third on the league table tonight after a convincing 4-1 victory against bottom club Sheffield United. The Blades are yet to win a game this season so far, and despite opening the scoring through David McGoldrick, they were unable to hold on. Tammy Abraham levelled things up for Chelsea, before Ben Chilwell knocked in a Hakim Ziyech cross to give Frank Lampard’s men the advantage. The second half was dominated completely by the Blues, as goals from Thiago Silva and Timo Werner ensured that the London club kept all three points.
Here Are The Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Sheffield United:
Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Sheffield United
Edouard Mendy – 7
Could have done nothing about the goal that Sheffield United scored as it was the result of a brilliant touch by McGoldrick. Wasn’t overly troubled apart from that as all he had to do was make a few routine stops.
Reece James – 8
The speedster seems to have taken the first-team berth completely out of the hands of Cesar Azpilicueta now, as he put in yet another commanding display. Did give the ball away a few times but made up for it with his link-up.
Kurt Zouma – 8
The Frenchman was largely untroubled in the heart of defence tonight as the Blades didn’t put up too much of a fight apart from the opening ten minutes. Was fluent with his passing and general awareness too.
Thiago Silva – 8
The Brazilian veteran scored his first goal for Chelsea tonight after making a smart run from a Blues corner. Put in multiple key tackles and won a number of vital headers against the Blades set-piece opportunities as well.
Ben Chilwell – 8
The Englishman’s life as a Chelsea player continues to charge on, as he put up yet another exceptional display down the flank. Ran up and down when required to and even managed to score a goal in the first half.
N’Golo Kante – 7.5
The Frenchman was neat and tidy with his passing tonight as he got forward and helped out in attack whenever required. Arguably should’ve stuck to his man in the lead up to the opening goal of the match though.
Mateo Kovacic – 7.5
The Croatian made some typical mazy dribbles during the fixture, but wasted a glorious opportunity to find the net. Did come close with another chance, but unfortunately had to come off injured.
Mason Mount – 8
The Englishman worked extremely hard in the middle of the park as he never stopped running all through the ninety. Dropped deep to collect the ball and launched most of the Chelsea attacks during that tie.
Hakim Ziyech – 9
The Moroccan was the star of the show once again, as his brilliant passing ability was on display tonight. Played multiple delectable cross-field balls and looks the part down the right flank. Picked up two assists as well.
Tammy Abraham – 8
The Englishman held the ball up quite efficiently and did well to score the goal that brought Lampard’s men back level in the first-half. Worked hard during defensive set-piece situations and won some key headers.
Timo Werner – 8
The German speedster gave the usually adventurous Blades full-backs a tough time with his pace and movement. Missed a decent chance to score but made no mistake when another opportunity fell his way minutes later.
Substitutes
Jorginho – 6
Replaced Mateo Kovacic as the Croatian went off with what seemed like a minor injury. Didn’t make any mistakes, was neat with his passing and worked quite hard in defence as well.
Olivier Giroud – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
