Premier League giants Manchester City picked up three points in the Champions League tonight after beating Olympiacos by a 3-0 scoreline. The English club were in the ascendancy right from the off, and despite the odd scare from the away side, they were able to see out the win. City scored through Ferran Torres in the first-half, but were unable to build on that lead till much later in the evening. Second-half substitute Gabriel Jesus scored their second of the night with an absolute thunderbolt, before Joao Cancelo’s silky finish ensured that City left the Etihad Stadium with all three points in the bag.
Here Are The Manchester City Player Ratings Vs Olympiacos:
Manchester City Player Ratings Vs Olympiacos
Ederson – 6
The Brazilian keeper looked confident when dealing with crosses into the area, but did have a couple of scary moments. The away side didn’t test him nearly as much as required though.
Kyle Walker – 7
The speedster looked solid as usual in the first-half, as he forayed forward whenever an opportunity to do so presented itself. Worked hard tracking back all through the evening as well.
John Stones – 6.5
The Englishman showed Pep Guardiola that he does have the quality to perform at the highest level tonight. Looked sharp with his forward passing and defended rather effectively too.
Nathan Ake – 6
The centre-half didn’t have his best outing in the heart of defence tonight, but he worked hard when the Olympiacos attackers began to pile on the pressure. Played a few loose passes out though.
Oleksandr Zinchecko – 6.5
The versatile Ukrainian was deployed in his regular full-back role tonight, and he did a decent job from a defensive perspective. Got forward when possible and played some good crosses too.
Kevin De Bruyne – 8
The Belgian pass-master didn’t do too much wrong despite being substituted prematurely. Picked up the assist for both of the first two goals, and ran things from the core of the City midfield.
Ilkay Gundogan – 5.5
The German was unable to build on his last Champions League performance as a lot of his forward passes were found wanting. Needs to improve to become a regular under Guardiola.
Phil Foden – 5
The youngster had what was arguably his worst performance in a City shirt so far this season, as he seemed completely careless in possession. Could’ve easily cost them a goal at the other end.
Riyad Mahrez – 5
The former Leicester City man struggled to get into the game despite picking the ball up in some dangerous areas. With Jesus now back to fitness, Mahrez is likely going to be the one that misses out.
Ferran Torres – 8
The Spaniard caused the Olympiacos back-line all kinds of problems with his pace and movement over the course of the ninety. Did well to slot past the keeper to open the scoring in the first half.
Raheem Sterling – 6
Put up a typically wiry display down the flank as he gave the defender a torrid time. Despite not playing all that badly, the Englishman was seriously lacking a cutting edge in the final third.
Substitutes
Gabriel Jesus – 7
The Brazilian scored a sensational goal on his return to first team action, as he looked threatening from the moment he entered the pitch.
Rodri – 6
Passed the ball around well and worked hard tracking back as well. Didn’t have too much else to do after coming into the tie though.
Joao Cancelo – NA
Scored a peach of a goal, but didn’t have enough time to do much else.
Bernardo Silva – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
Felix Nmecha – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
