Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as one of the best performing teams in the Premier League this season. The Lilywhites have been powered by the excellent form of attackers like Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been a rock at the heart of the midfield. In this article, however, we will take a look at three relatively less important players who could play a critical role under Jose Mourinho during the remainder of the ongoing campaign.
Three Players Who Could Play A Key Role At Tottenham Hotspur During The Remainder Of The Campaign
Joe Rodon
Joe Rodon joined Tottenham during the final days of the domestic transfer window in England, in a €12 million move from Swansea. He is yet to become a key member of the side, however, and has not been registered in the Europa League squad as of yet.
That said, Rodon could emerge as an important member of Mourinho’s defensive unit, which has evidently lacked consistency this season.
Davinson Sanchez has already had a topsy-turvy campaign, failing to provide any sense of solidity at the back while Japhet Tanganga has remained injured for the most part of the season so far. Toby Alderweireld has done well, but he is quite reliant on his defensive positioning and doesn’t have a great deal of space.
Rodon, therefore, serves as an excellent alternative for Mourinho, especially in a season ravaged by injuries across all department. So it will be interesting to see how the Welshman progresses at Tottenham during the remainder of the campaign.
Tanguy Ndombele
Tanguy Ndombele is among one of the most scrutinised players in the Premier League following a disastrous debut campaign at Tottenham last season. The Frenchman isn’t quite favoured by Mourinho, either.
However, it seems the ex-Lyon star has done well for himself so far this campaign, notably becoming a regular fixture in Spurs’ Premier League squad. He has mostly fared alongside Hojbjerg and Moussa Sissoko in the three-man midfield, ahead of Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli.
Ndombele has showcased his ability to drift past opposing defenders and has provided the creative essence in the middle third of the pitch this season. Those qualities could be essential for Spurs during the remainder of the campaign as the club look to finish inside top four.
Carlos Vinicius
A deadline day signing from FC Porto, Carlos Vinicius hasn’t had the attention one would expect, perhaps due to the presence of the star-studded offensive unit consisting of Kane, Son and Gareth Bale.
It is, however, Vinicius who has shown a lot of promise ever since making his debut in the Europe League. The Brazilian is blessed with a lot of work ethic and is always willing to get on to the ball and create chances for his team.
The youngster, despite being a centre forward by trade, is also capable of driving out wide which should combine well with the attackers like Son and Bale, both of who are equipped to drift in centrally. Vinicius, therefore, is almost guaranteed to make a name for himself at Spurs, especially if one of the big-name attackers pick up an injury during the course of the campaign.
