The Daily Mail has recently claimed that Real Madrid are facing stiff competition in pursuit of Red Bull Salzburg starlet Dominik Szoboszlai. It is believed that Los Blancos will have to compete with Bayern Munich, Arsenal and AC Milan in the race to secure the Hungarian whizkid’s services (via The Daily Mail).
In a recent interview with Abendzeitung Muenchen, Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus considered Szoboszlai as one of Hungary’s most valuable players and said (translated by The Daily Mail),
‘There is Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored the decisive goal against Iceland. He’s a gem, a guy like Kai Havertz.
‘In Hungary, he is already being compared to the great Ferenc Puskas.
‘A really great player who sometimes acts in the center and sometimes comes over the flank.
‘He could move to RB Leipzig in January, but I’m convinced that every top European club has him on the list, including FC Bayern.’
Szoboszlai’s Rich Vein Of Form At The Red Bull Arena This Season
Szoboszlai is having another outstanding season with RB Salzburg as his performances have been sensational from the left side of Jesse Marsch’s attack. The 20-year-old has registered five goals and nine assists in 13 matches for the Austrian outfit this term in various competitions.
The Budapest-born wing wizard has caught the eye in Europe after averaging 0.7 interceptions, 1.7 clearances, 2.3 shots, 3.0 key passes and 3.3 crosses per game in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. Szoboszlai has often been quite creative and adventurous with his ball-distribution which explains why he has only completed 73.1% of his attempted passes in European football this season (stats via whoscored).
What Does The Hungarian International Bring To The Table?
Szoboszlai has decent pace under his belt and can be a good outlet for his team down the left flank. He can whip in some dangerous crosses into the opponent’s penalty area and can be very inventive with his passing which explains how he has picked up nine assists so far this season.
The 12-time Hungarian international is a technically gifted footballer who can also contribute by scoring the odd goal from time to time. However, Szoboszlai is yet to prove himself at the highest level, so he might need some time to adapt to life in Spanish football.
Is Szoboszlai The Right Fit For Los Blancos?
Going by his form this season, Szoboszlai will be a terrific signing for Los Blancos as he will improve the quality of Zinedine Zidane’s match-day squad. The Hungarian will undeniably increase competition for the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Isco and Eden Hazard in the race to secure a regular spot on the left-wing at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Szoboszlai is also highly versatile as he can also play as a box to box midfielder if required which makes him a great fit for Zidane’s squad in the long-run.
