In a recent report, AS has claimed that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in 2022. It is understood that the reigning Spanish champions could use Martin Odegaard, who is close friends with the Norwegian striker, to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium at the end of next season. Furthermore, Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke admires Los Blancos president Florentino Pérez which could tip the scales in Madrid’s favour in the race to land the talented youngster in the future (via AS).
Haaland’s Excellent Form At Dortmund This Season
The 20-year-old has made an electric start to this campaign after bagging ten goals and three assists in just ten appearances across multiple competitions. He has been Lucien Favre’s main goal-threat up top over the course of this calendar year since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg back in January.
Haaland has been a joy to watch at the Signal Iduna Park this season and is averaging 3.4 shots, 1.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. However, the Leeds-born marksman has been a bit sloppy with his ball-distribution in the final third as he has completed only 71% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The way things are going, the Dortmund star will only get better with each season, so it makes sense for the Madrid giants to move in for him when he is a full-fledged world-class forward in the summer of 2022.
What Are The Norwegian Frontman’s Best Attributes?
Haaland is a pacey centre-forward who has made a habit of stretching the opposition defence by making some well-timed runs in the attacking third. He has proven his worth as a consistent goal-scorer in European football over the past 18 months and has established himself as a lethal finisher during his time in the Bundesliga.
The seven-time Norwegian international is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few shots in on-target and has shown that he has got the vision to pick out a killer pass inside the opponent’s penalty area.
Is Haaland A Good Fit For Los Blancos?
Haaland is already good enough to get into Zinedine Zidane’s first-team, so he will be a brilliant fit for them in 2022 when he would become a more matured and composed striker in front of goal. Plus, the Norwegian goal-scorer has what it takes to be an ideal long-term replacement for Karim Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
He will add plenty of pace and goals to Zidane’s frontline for the long-run. At 20, Haaland is a transcendental talent, so it would be a massive coup for Real Madrid if they can find a way to bring him to the Spanish capital in the future.
