Manchester United locked horns with Arsenal at Old Trafford earlier this evening looking to secure a positive result on their home turf. The Red Devils were toothless in the first half but did enough to go into the half-time interval level on the scoreline.
The Mancunian giants were slightly better after the second half kicked off but ended up conceding a penalty which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted in the 69th minute to give his team the all-important lead. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s players struggled to break Arsenal down as the match finished with the home side suffering a lacklustre 1-0 loss at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the contest against the Gunners.
GK: David de Gea – 5/10
The Spanish keeper was hardly tested during the game but failed to stop Aubameyang’s penalty, which was the difference between the two teams in the end.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5/10
The ex-Crystal Palace full-back was dominated aerially and produced a fruitless display in the opposition half.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 6.5/10
The Swedish centre-back only had one nervy moment during the game but did well to restrict Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette from scoring from open play.
CB: Harry Maguire – 5.5/10
Maguire was guilty of squandering a glorious goal-scoring opportunity when the scoreline was level. However, he put in a solid performance at the back but will be bitterly disappointed for not earning the shutout in the second half.
LB: Luke Shaw – 5/10
The talented full-back was a bundle of energy with his running down the left flank but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CM: Scott McTominay – 5/10
McTominay struggled to win the midfield battles and was often outrun by the Gunners attackers. It was another mediocre display from him tonight.
CM: Fred – 4.5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace offered very little at the centre of the park and was rightfully subbed off in the second half.
CM: Paul Pogba – 4/10
The French international looked like a shadow of his former self and needlessly gave away the penalty after the hour mark.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 4/10
The Portuguese playmaker was always looking to get on the ball but was wasteful with his passing and got replaced in the 75th minute.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 5/10
The English striker had a few bright moments in the final third but never looked like he had a goal in him.
ST: Mason Greenwood – 4.5/10
The youngster began the game brightly, but his performance levels faded as the match went on.
Substitutes:
CM: Nemanja Matic – 5/10
The Serbian midfielder failed to get into the game.
ST: Edinson Cavani – 4/10
The Uruguayan striker hardly got a chance to score.
CAM: Donny van de Beek – 5/10
The Dutch playmaker hit the post with his deflected attempt.
