In a recent report, ForzaRoma has revealed that Leicester City are set to rival West Ham United in the race to secure the services of AS Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara. It is believed that an offer of around €25m could be enough for the Foxes to convince Roma to sanction the departure of the Guinean international (via ForzaRoma).
Diawara’s Solid Career At Rome So Far
The 23-year-old has missed a significant bulk of this campaign so far after testing positive for the Covid-19 virus. He has made three appearances for Roma this term, receiving a total of 117 minutes of playing time in the Serie A.
Diawara enjoyed a solid debut season at the Stadio Olimpico last season when he produced a string of dominant displays at the heart of Paulo Fonseca’s midfield. The Conakry-born talent proved his worth by averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 0.5 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2019-20 Serie A campaign. He even retained possession immaculately for his side at the centre of the park as evident from his pass success rate of 88.9% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
The 11-time Guinean international has established himself as a tough-tackling midfielder at the Italian capital. Still, there are some concerns over whether Diawara has what it takes to cope with the high intensity of football in England which makes him a risky option for Leicester to consider this winter.
What Will The Guinean Midfield Ace Bring To The King Power Stadium?
Diawara is quite aggressive in the way he conducts himself at the centre of Fonseca’s midfield. He is known for his tenacity to earn possession back for his side. The Guinean international has a good worth ethic and can pass the ball accurately without losing the ball from midfield. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement in his game, so Brendan Rodgers should only consider moving in for him in January if he is confident about getting the best out of him in the coming seasons.
At the moment, competition is booming in Leicester’s midfield department as the likes of Nampalys Mendy and Youri Tielemans has established themselves as Rodgers’ first-choice holding midfielders. Hamza Choudhury and Dennis Praet have given the Foxes some much-needed strength in depth as well in the injury absence of Wilfried Ndidi.
However, a player of Diawara’s skillset could add another dimension to Rodgers’ midfield as he would offer more defensive protection for the Foxes backline. He will also enhance the quality of Leicester’s match-day squad considerably, so the East Midlands outfit would be wise to orchestrate a move to bring him to the King Power Stadium during the winter transfer period.
