In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo has stated that former Manchester United target and Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele could be available in January. It is believed that the French attacker is among five players who are being considered to depart the Nou Camp when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year which could reignite Man United’s interest after they failed to land him earlier this year (via Mundo Deportivo).
Dembele’s Underwhelming Record For The Catalans Recently
Dembele has made a slow start to this campaign after finding the back of the net twice and securing one assist in seven matches for Barca in various competitions. However, he deserves credit for showing a clean bill of health so far this season.
The 23-year-old has caught the eye with his performances in Europe as he is averaging 2.3 shots and 3.3 dribbles per game in the UEFA Champions League group stages. The French speedster has also distributed the ball immaculately in the final third as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 83.3% in European football (stats via whoscored).
However, the lack of game time has not done his frailing confidence any good, which explains why he doesn’t score or assist goals consistently at the Nou Camp anymore. Multiple injuries in recent years have taken a toll on his body as well that has derailed his career at Catalonia. Maybe, switching clubs this winter could be a welcome opportunity for him to make a fresh start away from La Liga, so Man United should consider going in with an offer for him in January.
What Will The French Attacker Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Dembele is one of the fastest wide players in European football and is proficient at breezing past his marker using blistering pace, agility and dribbling ability in the decisive end of the field. He can shoot the ball with power or can even curve it into the opposition net which makes him a constant menace up top.
The 21-time French international can also deliver some promising crosses into the opponent’s penalty area but needs to add more goals and creativity to his game if he wants to establish himself amongst the best players in world football.
Should The Red Devils Go Back In For Dembele This Winter?
At the moment, the Mancunian giants are quite well-stocked in the attacking third of the pitch. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani and Daniel James are all fighting for a place on the wings at Old Trafford week in week out.
Therefore, Dembele won’t be guaranteed regular first-team action if he decides to join the Red Devils in January. Even then, the Frenchman’s quality is undeniable, so Solskjaer should look towards orchestrating a move for him so that he has a strong squad capable of contesting for multiple trophies in the coming seasons.
