In a recent report, Calciomercato has claimed that Chelsea are keeping tabs on the progress of Malmo FF defender Anel Ahmedhodzic who could be available for around €10m. However, it is believed that the Blues could face stiff competition from AC Milan in pursuit of the Bosnia-Herzegovina international (via Calciomercato).
Ahmedhodzic’s Rapid Rise At Malmo Over The Past 18 Months
The Malmo-born talent came through the youth ranks of his boyhood club before joining Nottingham Forest as a teenager back in 2016. Despite his three-year stint at the City Ground, he failed to break into their first-team. Ahmedhodzic returned to Malmo at the start of last year and has since been a real revelation for them in the Allsvenskan.
The 21-year-old has already made 35 senior appearances for the Swedish outfit, netting two goals in the process across various competitions. He caught the eye in Europe last season when he featured in two Europa League games for Malmo and did well to average 2.0 tackles, 2.5 interceptions and 1.5 clearances. Ahmedhodzic even distributed the ball immaculately in both of those matches as evident from his pass success rate of 84.8% (stats via whoscored).
However, the two-time Bosnia-Herzegovina international is yet to prove his worth at the highest level, so Chelsea would be taking a gamble if they decide to bank on his untapped potential by engineering a move to bring him to Stamford Bridge in the future.
What Does The Talented Youngster Offer On The Pitch?
Ahmedhodzic is a moderately paced defender who is not shy of contesting for the ball by putting in some well-timed tackles inside his half. He has matured as a centre-back upon his return to Malmo but has still got a long way to go before he is ready to test himself in one of the top leagues in European football.
Standing at 1.92m, the Bosnia-Herzegovina international can be a towering presence at the back and can win his fair share of aerial 50-50 aerial duels as well. Hence, it is no surprise that both Chelsea and AC Milan are monitoring his progress at the Eleda Stadion.
Is Ahmedhodzic A Prospect For The Future?
At the moment, Ahmedhodzic is showing a lot of promise with his performances in the Swedish top-flight. Hence, the Malmo youngster will undeniably enhance the quality of Chelsea’s academy if Frank Lampard decides to make a move to lure him to West London. At 21, Ahmedhodzic is only going to get better with each season, so there is no doubt that he will be a prospect to look out for in the years to come.
