In a recent report, Sky Sports has mentioned that West Ham United are inching closer towards signing Brentford winger Said Benrahma before the domestic transfer deadline on October 16. It is understood that the Hammers are in advanced talks with the Bees over a potential deal valued in the region of £30m for the Algerian wide player’s services (via Sky Sports).
Benrahma’s Impressive Rise At West London Recently
The former Ligue 1 playmaker experienced a majestic season at the Brentford Community Stadium as he produced several match-winning displays under the stewardship of Thomas Frank. He helped the Bees reach the EFL Championship playoffs final but narrowly missed out on promotion after being beaten by Fulham.
However, Benrahma will learn a lot from his experience from the previous campaign when he found the back of the net on 17 occasions while providing ten assists in 46 appearances for Brentford across all competitions.
The 25-year-old discovered some consistency with his all-around contributions in the attacking third as he averaged 3.8 shots, 2.1 key passes, 3.0 dribbles and 0.7 crosses per match in the EFL Championship last season. However, Benrahma could have distributed possession a bit more accurately after he completed 77.8% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
What Will The Algerian International Add To David Moyes’ Side?
Benrahma is a well-rounded attacker who loves to get a few shots in on-target but is not selfish by any means as he is always willing to set-up his teammates for an inviting goal-scoring chance if they are in a more advantageous position than him. The Algerian hotshot has proven himself to be a regular goal-scorer and a prolific chance-creator in the Championship, but the jury is still out on whether he can adapt to the Premier League quickly and maintain his high standards in the coming seasons.
The OGC Nice youth product is currently playing at his prime, so he could prove to be a massive coup for West Ham if they can get the deal over the line before the domestic transfer window slams shut later this month.
David Moyes has currently got Pablo Fornals, Jarrod Bowen and Andriy Yarmolenko vying for one of the wing positions in his first-team. Therefore, he can benefit from adding someone of Benrahma’s skillset for this new campaign. The four-time Algerian international will add some depth and variety to the Hammers frontline which could be enough for them to secure a top-half finish in the Premier League this season.
