In a recent report, The Daily Mirror has revealed that West Ham United are among several clubs hoping to land Brentford winger Said Benrahma. It is believed that the Hammers are interested in acquiring the Algerian wide player’s services but are not alone and could face competition from Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Chelsea in pursuit of him (via The Daily Mirror).
Benrahma’s Incredible Form At West London Last Season
The 25-year-old experienced one of the best seasons of his playing career in the last term when he helped his team reach the EFL Championship playoffs final where Fulham eventually beat them. However, that defeat has not dampened his mood as he has begun this campaign on fire after scoring two goals in three matches for the Bees across all competitions.
Benrahma showed what he is capable of by discovering some consistency with his performances last season. He deserves a pat on the back for averaging 3.8 shots, 2.1 key passes, 3.0 dribbles and 0.7 crosses per 90 minutes in the 2019-20 EFL Championship campaign. However, the three-time Algerian international needs to work on improving his accuracy when distributing possession in the opposition half as evident from his pass completion rate of 77.8% in the English second division (stats via whoscored).
The former Ligue 1 speedster has thrived in English football since arriving from OGC Nice in the summer of 2018. He has transformed himself into a prolific goal-scoring winger in the Championship. However, the jury is still out on whether he can replicate his high numbers in the Premier League where he will be surrounded by some of the best talents in world football.
What Will The Algerian Wing Wizard Add To David Moyes’ Team?
Benrahma is blessed with electric pace which he can use when dribbling with the ball down the left flank. He is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few shots in at goal and has even got the vision to set-up some decent chances for his teammates in the final third. The Algerian international has been a consistent goal-scorer for Brentford over the past 12 months, so a lot will be expected of him if he decides to take the step up to the Premier League in the future.
Is Benrahma The Right Fit For The Hammers?
Benrahma will significantly bolster David Moyes’ attacking options at the London Stadium and could potentially strike up a productive attacking partnership with the likes of Michail Antonio, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen in the coming seasons.
Plus, the Algerian’s addition could also help the Hammers secure a top-half finish in the Premier League and go on a long FA Cup run if Moyes can find a way to orchestrate a move to recruit him soon. Therefore, Benrahma will be a great fit for the East London outfit if they can get him on board before the domestic transfer deadline later this month.
