As reported by Express, Victor Orta has hinted a potential move for Todd Cantwell. A move to Leeds United could be on the cards for the Norwich City star, before the domestic transfer window in England slams shuts on 16th October.
“We analyse all the players,” he told Yorkshire Evening Post. “We know them really well, their clubs were our rivals, we analysed [Cantwell] in the Premier League. But it’s like a lot of players we’ve analysed.
Todd Cantwell’s Impressive Season In The Premier League
Cantwell was one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise dire campaign for Norwich City last season. He impressed the onlookers with his pace and determination, ultimately managing to score six goals while providing two assists.
The fact that the winger was involved in eight of Norwich City’s 26 goals suggests his importance in the side. But aside from his productivity, the 22-year-old played a key role in the creative unit, averaging almost a key pass per game.
Cantwell also offered spark on the counter, using his pace and ability to drift past defenders. He had attempted over 2.1 dribbles per game whilst mustering at least one shot on goal. It is a remarkable tally for someone who played at Norwich City last season.
Is Cantwell A Good Fit For Leeds United?
Cantwell is, no doubt, one of the most gifted players for the Canaries at the moment. However, Leeds United’s interest in the winger seems rather bizarre, given the fact that they clearly need to bolster their options in the number ten role.
The injury of Pablo Hernandez had forced Marcelo Bielsa to rely on the services of Tyler Roberts and Rodrigo in the last couple of matches. It clearly doesn’t bode well for the club, especially if we consider Roberts’ poor form in the Premier League while Rodrigo is better fitted in a more attacking role.
Cantwell, in that regard, doesn’t exactly fit in well at Elland Road.
The Norwich City star does have the experience of playing in a central role. Still, he is far more comfortable operating out wide, where he is expected to face stiff competition from the likes of Jack Harrison, Helder Costa, Raphinha and Ian Poveda.
What Should Be Bielsa’s Play Here?
As we head towards the final stage of the domestic transfer window, Marcelo Bielsa should drop his interest on Cantwell and ideally find a central attacking midfielder, who can provide backup for the ageing Hernandez.
Football Insider, though an unreliable source, has claimed that the Whites are eyeing a move for Derby County’s rising star Louie Sibley and the move could make sense given the potential shown by the youngster so far.
