Leeds United have emerged as one of the fascinating teams in these early stages of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign. They have indeed exceeded all expectations with competent performances against Manchester City and Liverpool while securing wins over Fulham and Sheffield United.
Here, at The 4th Official, we will talk about three best performers for Leeds United so far this season, though in no particular order.
Mateusz Klich
By far Leeds United’s most active and influential player in the first three matches of the season, Mateusz Klich has enjoyed rapid growth under Marcelo Bielsa, and it has been highlighted in his performances in the Premier League this season.
The Pole has established himself as a vital figure in the second line of press. He has provided aggression, work-rate and a fighting mentality, helping Leeds United sustain their high pressing game throughout the course of ninety minutes.
However, what has made Klich a class apart from his teammates is that he has proven himself to be quite productive going forward as well. The 30-year-old has already been involved in three goals in four matches while averaging 1.5 key passes per game. It has served his club well, especially with Pablo Hernandez struggling with injuries.
Helder Costa
Jack Harrison made a remarkable impact in the opening game against Liverpool, notably scoring a breathtaking goal. But, it was Helder Costa who has been more consistent in terms of his productivity in the final third.
The ex-Wolves star scored two goals in the high scoring game against Fulham while also bagging an assist in the first game. More importantly, Costa has been a constant attacking outlet from the right-hand channel, despite having less support from the full-back Luke Ayling, who is often reserved for a more defensive role in the side.
Patrick Bamford
The most obvious one on this list, Patrick Bamford has exceeded all expectations with his incredible productivity in front of goal this season. After missing a golden opportunity against Liverpool, the ex-Chelsea striker has since netted a total of three goals while providing two assists.
Bamford’s overall work-rate and technical ability were already well documented. But, the Leeds United frontman has surprised the onlookers with his remarkable confidence in front of goal. He has, in fact, attained a conversion rate of 27%, which is significantly higher than what he achieved in the Championship last season.
Whether or not Bamford can sustain this performance remains a question. However, Leeds United could, no doubt, emerge as a surprise package this season.
