In a recent report, Calciomercato has mentioned that Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik is keen on a January move amid recent interest from Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. Both the Toffees and Spurs have been name-dropped with regards to a potential move for the Polish goal-getter during the winter transfer period (via Calciomercato).
Milik’s Fall From Grace At Naples
Milik’s current deal at the San Paolo Stadium will expire at the end of this campaign, so the Italian club will have no choice but to cash in on him for a bargain fee in January or else risk losing him for free next summer. Even though the Poland international had to deal with some injury concerns, yet he deserves credit for finding a run of consistency after scoring 14 goals in 35 appearances for Gennaro Gattuso’s side last season across all fronts.
However, the 26-year-old’s overall contributions in the final third have been far from impressive as he averaged 2.6 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in 2019-20 Serie A season. Milik distributed possession relatively well in the opposition half after completing 82.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
The Tychy-born marksman is yet to receive any minutes this season, so it is safe to assume that he is surplus to requirements at Naples. It makes sense for both the player and his current employers to part ways with each other when the transfer window reopens in January.
What Will The Polish Centre-Forward Bring To Goodison Park?
Milik is an experienced forward who has gradually transformed himself into a prolific goal-scorer at the highest level. He excels at getting some shots in on-target and can regularly score goals when he is playing with confidence on the field.
Standing at 1.86m, the Polish frontman can use his power and energy to keep possession moving in an around the opponent’s penalty box and has got the football IQ to get himself into a few promising positions in the attacking third. However, he lacks the pace to run in behind the opposition backline, which can sometimes make him a liability on the pitch.
Should Carlo Ancelotti Snap Milik Up This Winter?
Everton have currently got Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as their first-choice strikers while both Cenk Tosun and Anthony Gordon serve as the back-ups in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. The Toffees boss needs to recruit another prolific striker if he wants a strong squad capable of challenging for top honours in the coming seasons.
Signing Milik will undeniably be a step in the right direction as he has what it takes to push Calvert-Lewin for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park. Plus, the Polish forward will enhance the quality of the Merseyside club’s striking department which might be enough for them to challenge the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ teams in the years to come.
