Leeds United registered their second defeat of the campaign following a 1-0 loss over Wolves this evening. The Whites were the better side in the first half but an inspiring second-half display from their opponents saw Raul Jimenez find the winner in the 70th minute, with the home side failing to find any appropriate response.
Leeds United Player Ratings Vs Wolves
Illan Meslier 6/10
Illan Meslier didn’t have a lot to do this evening apart from one fine save in the second half. The Frenchman was helpless in the Raul Jimenez effort as the shot deflected off Kalvin Phillips.
Luke Ayling 8/10
Luke Ayling was one of the best performers for Leeds United defence. He was disciplined throughout the course of the game, marshalling the backline with his composure while also making a goal-saving block to deny Ruben Neves late in the game. His long passes out from the back were brilliant as well.
Robin Koch 7.5/10
Robin Koch was once again decent in fending off the threat of Wolves attackers. The German did make a sloppy clearance that led to the Romain Saiss goal, which was later overturned by VAR.
Pascal Struijk 7/10
Defended admirably for the most part of the game but was very unfortunate for the slip that allowed Raul Jimenez to get on to the ball and eventually score the winner.
Stuart Dallas 7/10
Stuart Dallas had a busy game on the left flank, trying to provide that extra attacking support going forward. He wasn’t as impressive or tidy as Ayling on the opposite flank.
Kalvin Phillips 6.5/10
Kalvin Phillips had a mixed game. His brilliant range of passing was always a bonus but the midfielder made multiple rash challenges, though he was unfortunate to have headed the ball goalwards.
Helder Costa 5.5/10
Helder Costa was close to winning an early penalty, showcasing some majestic footwork during the first phase of the game. Unfortunately, the winger’s influence faded as the game progressed.
Mateusz Klich 6/10
Mateusz Klich was hard-working as always, playing a key role in the second line of press. The Pole may have done a little better in terms of his ball retention, though.
Rodrigo Moreno 8/10
Rodrigo Moreno mesmerised the onlookers with his sublime touches and skill on the ball. He was the architect behind most of Leeds United’s chances but was unlucky not to find the back of the net. An impressive performance from the record signing.
Jack Harrison 6.5/10
Jack Harrison was an ever-present figure in the Leeds United attack, always looking to probe the Wolves defence with his runs down the flanks. His crosses could have been a bit more accurate, but the winger was much more influential than Costa.
Patrick Bamford 5/10
Patrick Bamford had a dismal attacking display today. He wasn’t up to the mark often mistiming his runs while his combination play with Rodrigo is not yet perfect. Needs a little time to adapt alongside the Spaniard.
SUBSTITUTES
Ian Poveda 5/10
Replaced Costa during the final phase of the game but his direct runs into the defence were not useful for Leeds United this evening.
Pablo Hernandez 7.5/10
Offered a creative spark in the Leeds United attack after coming on for Struijk. The Spaniard made himself a real asset in the final third for the Whites, though they ultimately failed to find the back of the net.
Raphinha 7/10
Made some useful runs down the flanks, in what was his Leeds United debut.
