Manchester United entertained Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford earlier today hoping to pick a positive result at home. The Red Devils were awarded a penalty in the second minute which Bruno Fernandes scored to give his side the lead. However, Spurs hit back just two minutes later courtesy of Tanguy Ndombele’s goal.
Son Heung-min gave his team the lead when he found the back of the net in the seventh minute. The wheels fell off the Man United wagon when Anthony Martial was given his marching orders midway through the first half. Harry Kane doubled his team’s advantage just two minutes later before Son struck again to put daylight between the two teams at half-time.
Serge Aurier and Harry Kane scored two more goals in the second half to compound the home team’s misery as the contest finished with the Red Devils suffering a humiliating 6-1 defeat at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player fared during the clash against Tottenham.
GK: David De Gea – 4/10
The Spanish keeper had a horror game in between the sticks as he ended up conceding six goals during the contest. This massive loss won’t do his confidence any good.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4/10
The ex-Crystal Palace full-back was completely dominated by Son Heung-min, and his impact was minimal in the opposition half.
CB: Eric Bailly – 4/10
Bailly made some poor defensive errors throughout the 90 minutes which didn’t help Man United’s cause.
CB: Harry Maguire – 3/10
The English centre-back looked lazy and lacklustre at times as he produced a disastrous performance at the heart of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defence.
LB: Luke Shaw – 3/10
He went missing in defence and got exposed way too easily out on the wide areas. Shaw needs to be dropped if he continues to put in such embarrassing performances at left-back.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 3.5/10
The Serbian midfield ace was too slow to react in midfield and got outrun by the energetic Spurs attackers.
CM: Paul Pogba – 3/10
The French midfielder was a spectator at times during the game and gave away a lazy penalty in the second half. It was another lacklustre display from him today.
RM: Mason Greenwood – 4/10
Greenwood threw away the ball too many times and never looked like he had a goal in him.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
The Portuguese playmaker kept his calm to convert another penalty, but it all went downhill from there.
LM: Marcus Rashford – 4/10
The English striker hit the woodwork once but didn’t offer much else during the game.
ST: Anthony Martial – 2/10
The French striker lost his cool and got sent off in the first half which killed the game as Spurs went on to bang in four more goals in his absence.
Substitutes:
CM: Fred – 5/10
The Brazilian sensation tried to make things happen but was nowhere near good enough.
CM: Scott McTominay – 5/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench at half-time.
CM: Donny van de Beek – 5/10
The Dutch midfielder struggled to get into the game.
