Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United side stuttered their way to a drab 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight after a late free-kick by Jacob Murphy handed them a point. The first-half saw Wolves completely dominate in terms of chances as well as possession, but they were fortunately not able to convert. It wasn’t until the 80th minute that the home side opened the scoring, as a Raul Jimenez shot beat Karl Darlow in goal, despite the keeper getting a solid hand on it. Jacob Murphy is the man who stepped up to the plate nine minutes later to squeeze in a free-kick past Rui Patricio, to give the Magpies what could prove to be a vital point over the course of the long league season.
Here Are The Newcastle United Player Ratings Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers:
Newcastle United Player Ratings Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Karl Darlow – 5
Made a few smart saves over the ninety but made a dire mistake in the second half to allow Jimenez the opener. Got a palm to his shot but wasn’t able to keep the ball out of the net.
Jacob Murphy – 7.5
The speedster was deployed as a wing-back by Steve Bruce tonight, and he produced the free-kick goal that gifted them what could be a valuable point. Worked tirelessly off the ball as well.
Fabian Schar – 7
The centre-half put in a decent shift at the back as Wolves piled on the pressure all through the first-half. Had things a bit easier in the second but the general lack of quality in attack helped his cause.
Jamaal Lascelles – 6
The Englishman was given a tough time by the movement of Raul Jimenez, but he did his job for the most part. Won some key headers and made his presence felt in the middle of the box.
Federico Fernandez – 7
Put himself about at the back to try and keep the Wolves attackers in check, and made a number of important blocks and interceptions. Dealt with some crosses into the area as well.
Jamal Lewis – 5
The speedster was given an extremely tough time down the flank tonight as the Wolves attacking was mostly condensed down his side, especially in the first half. Wasn’t able to get out too much.
Ryan Fraser – 5
The winger struggled to get a hold of the ball as the Wolves attacking was relentless over the ninety. Touch let him down on a couple of occasions and never looked like producing.
Jeff Hendrick – 4
The former Burnley man was unable to get into the pace of the game as he played a number of loose passes. Failed to get on the ball and impact the tie, and struggled for most of the night.
Miguel Almiron – 6.5
The Paraguayan speed-demon’s work-rate over the ninety was commendable to say the least. Despite not having too much joy in attack, he ran his absolute socks off to get up and down the pitch.
Callum Wilson – 6
Wasted a good chance to pull the trigger in the first half, but it wasn’t the kind for Wilson’s skill-set. Wasn’t able to get into the pace of the game as most of his runs were into the wrong space.
Allan Saint-Maximin – 5.5
The speedster struggled to produce quality in the final third despite going on a number of typically mazy forward runs. Had some good crossing opportunities but produced next to nothing from them.
