In a recent report, Manchester Evening News has claimed that Manchester United are set to retain their interest in Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. It is believed that the Red Devils are refusing to give up on the English wide player despite failing to land him after declining to meet Dortmund’s €120m price-tag earlier this summer (via Manchester Evening News).
Sancho’s Incredible Spell At Dortmund Thus Far
The talented wing wizard has enjoyed a successful career at the Signal Iduna Park after producing several memorable performances under Lucien Favre’s stewardship in recent times. Sancho has also made a bright start to this campaign as he banged in one goal and provided two assists in three appearances for the German outfit across all fronts.
The London-born prospect also had one of the best years of his playing career last season when he finished with 20 goals and 20 assists to his name in 44 matches for his current club in various competitions. The 20-year-old was a joy to watch out on the wide areas and ended the season with an average of 1.6 shots, 2.2 key passes and 2.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He also took care of the ball when interchanging possession with his teammates in the final third as evident from his pass completion rate of 85.1% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Sancho is a star in the making, so he could prove to be a massive signing for the Red Devils if they can find a way to tempt him to move to Old Trafford in the future. However, for now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no choice but to focus on getting the best out of the many attacking talents at his disposal.
What Will The English Wing Wizard Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Sancho has developed a healthy habit of scoring and assisting goals consistently at the highest level. The fact that he has done so at such a young age is nothing short of remarkable. The 13-time England international has got electric pace and agility which he can use to get to the by-line at will or cut inside and orchestrate a goal-scoring opportunity for himself inside the opponent’s penalty box. At 20, he has already established himself as one of the best dribblers in European football and has shown outstanding work-ethic with his performances down the right flank.
Should Man United Go Back In For Sancho Next Summer?
The Red Devils have currently got plenty of attacking options in their squad with the likes of Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James all fighting for a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack.
Therefore, Solskjaer has no immediate need to spend big money on a new attacker. The Norwegian head coach will be better off spending some money on recruiting a couple of world-class defenders in the future as most of his side’s weaknesses right now are on the defensive end of the field. At the same time, a player of Sancho’s quality would no doubt add more pace and variety to their frontline which makes him an attractive option for the Mancunian giants to consider at the end of this campaign.
