According to Calciomercato, Leeds United are among clubs interested in Lovro Majer. The Dinamo Zagreb starlet is tipped to leave the club soon, as he looks ahead for a new challenge in his career, although his contract expires in 2023. AC Milan are said to be leading the chase in the pursuit of Majer, but the Rossoneri could face stiff competition from Leeds, as well as Fiorentina and Borussia Dortmund.
Who Is Lovro Majer?
An attacking midfielder by trade, Majer has emerged as an exciting prospect in Croatian football following his move to Dinamo Zagreb in 2018. He enjoyed his proper breakthrough last season, having been involved in six goals in 21 matches.
The 22-year-old has stepped up his game this season, taking part in five goals in the opening six matches in 1.HNL. The playmaker has impressed the onlookers with his ability to craft chances in the final third, as backed up by his excellent tally so far this campaign.
A key aspect in Majer’s game is his quick-feet and mobility that allows him to deceive the opposition defenders with clever turns. He is also quite lethal in front of goal and is particularly useful from set-pieces.
However, what makes Majer such a sought-after prospect in Croatian football is his work-rate. Productivity aside, the Zagreb playmaker is someone who is always willing to cover the ground and win the ball back for his team, thus making him an excellent all-round number ten.
How Does Majer Fit In At Leeds United?
Majer’s style of play resembles Leeds United midfielder, Mateusz Klich, although the Croat is much more effective going forward. He can provide Marcelo Bielsa with an additional option in the creative unit.
It makes a lot of sense, given the fact that Pablo Hernandez is still yet to find his feet so far this campaign. The Spaniard is also in the final stage of his career while Tyler Roberts is among the few Leeds players who have failed to live up to the expectations in the Premier League this season.
Majer, in that regard, could be a vital alternative for Hernandez in the number ten role. As mentioned earlier, the 22-year-old has the quality to not only create chances, but he can also strengthen the second line of press with his determination and work-rate – making him a tailor-made fit for Bielsa’s tactical philosophy.
That said, it’s unlikely that Majer will end up at Elland Road as AC Milan are indeed leading the chase. Leeds United, in that regard, should ideally shift their attention towards a new holding midfielder, who can provide cover for Kalvin Phillips.
