It has been a difficult start to the season for Manchester City, who were tagged as one of the favourites to land the Premier League title. The Sky Blues have failed to win two of their first three matches, and the pressure is now on Pep Guardiola.
The Catalan will be hoping that some of his acquisitions work out this season as he looks to compete with Liverpool and here at The 4th Official we will rate every one of Manchester City’s new signings this summer.
Rating Manchester City’s New Signings This Summer
Ruben Dias 8/10
Rubin Dias has been the marquee signing for Manchester City this summer, having joined from SL Benfica for a fee of €60 million.
The Portuguese international was brought in to provide more depth in the defensive unit. He even started the game against Leeds United, though Man City were held to a 1-1 draw.
At Etihad, Dias could prosper under someone like Guardiola, who can help him master his passing and positioning sense. These qualities can combine well with his incredible physique and a remarkable mentality and leadership – making him an ideal coup for the Sky Blues.
Nathan Ake 8/10
Another key defensive signing for Manchester City, Nathan Ake’s arrival from Bournemouth made sense from all angles.
The ex-Chelsea prodigy has a significant amount of experience in the Premier League, having featured in 121 competitive matches for the Cherries. Ake may not be as imposing as Dias, but the Dutchman does have a good sense of positioning and a brilliant range of passing, which should combine well with the more robust nature of Dias.
At the age of 25, Ake also has time on his side and could be a good long-term investment for the Premier League giants.
Ferran Torres 7/10
Ferran Torres was brought in from Valencia for just €23 million this summer. He was regarded as one of La Liga’s most talented up and coming stars last season.
At Etihad, Torres is expected to provide back-up for Riyad Mahrez, especially with Bernardo Silva losing a bit of form over the past 12 months. Injuries haven’t been kind on him either, and following the departure of David Silva, the Portuguese international might be needed in a more central role.
That is where Torres could be useful, providing Guardiola with an additional option in the final third that could be important now more than ever given the hectic schedule of the 2020/21 campaign.
Pablo Moreno 6/10
One of the most highly-rated Spanish youth players, the signing of Pablo Moreno was a massive coup for Manchester City.
The centre-forward has shown tremendous potential at Juventus, though he was sent to Man City’s sister club Girona on loan. It will be interesting to see how the 18-year-old fares in the Segunda Division this season.
Yan Couto 6/10
Yan Couto was signed prematurely from Coritiba earlier this year following his breakout in Brazilian football. But much like, Pablo Moreno, the right-back has been sent on loan to Girona FC. He is yet to start in a single game for his new club.
Nahuel Bustos 6/10
Another player who has been shipped to Girona FC on loan this summer, Nahuel Bustos initially joined the club from Argentine side CA Talleres. He is a centre-forward and is set to compete with Moreno in the Girona camp this season.
Issa Kabore 6/10
Issa Kabore was poached from KV Mechelen and has been sent back to Belgium on a season-long loan deal. The right-back has been performing well in these early parts of the campaign.
