West Ham United clash heads with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium earlier today hoping to pick up a positive result away from home. The Hammers made a bright start to the contest and broke the deadlock in the 14th minute courtesy of Michail Antonio’s goal. Pablo Fornals doubled his team’s advantage just after the half-hour mark which saw the Londoners go into the half-time break two goals to the good.
The Hammers defended valiantly in the second 45 minutes and finally managed to kill the game off when Jarrod Bowen scored a breakaway goal in the 83rd minute. The match ended with West Ham securing an impressive 3-0 win away at the East Midlands.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the match against the Foxes.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6/10
The Hammers keeper was not tested by the Foxes attackers at all throughout the 90 minutes and kept a comfortable clean sheet away from home.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 7.5/10
Coufal gave a good account of himself on his West Ham debut. He read the danger quickly and was defensively solid during the game but ended up picking up a caution in the second half.
CB: Fabian Balbuena – 7/10
The Paraguayan centre-back commanded his penalty area with authority and conviction but was guilty of squandering two excellent chances in the offensive end of the field.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 8.5/10
He did well to keep Leicester’s Jamie Vardy quiet for the whole game and marshalled his team towards a priceless clean sheet and three points away from home.
CB: Aaron Cresswell – 9/10
The English defender was hardly troubled inside his half and picked up two great assists for his creativity in the opposition half. It was a man of the match performance from him today.
LB: Arthur Masuaku – 7.5/10
He was always looking to make a few driving runs down the left flank and was also there helping his teammates out at the back when Leicester were pushing for a goal in the second half.
RM: Jarrod Bowen – 8.5/10
Bowen worked his socks off and was a constant menace for the Foxes defenders. He was rewarded with a fine goal in the 83rd minute, which sealed all three points for his side.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 8/10
The 25-year-old was a real bundle of energy in midfield and was ready to fight for every loose ball at the centre of the park.
CM: Declan Rice – 7/10
Rice maintained a good shape in the middle of the pitch and showed great hunger to get forward. He was unfortunate to hit the bar with his attempt in the second half.
LM: Pablo Fornals – 8/10
He started the game a bit slow but popped up to score West Ham’s second goal in the 34th minute. Fornals produced another industrious performance during the 90 minutes and was instrumental behind his team’s success at the King Power today.
ST: Michail Antonio – 8/10
Antonio kept his good form going when he found the back of the net in the 14th minute. He never gave a moment’s rest to the Leicester defenders in what was another impressive showing from him as a centre-forward.
