Bayern Munich start their 2020/21 UEFA Champions League in an emphatic style, securing a convincing 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid. The reigning European champions were seemingly dominant against their Spanish opposition as goals from Leon Goretzka, Corentin Tolisso and a brace from Kingsley Coman help them secure all three points.
Bayern Munich Player Ratings Vs Atletico Madrid
Manuel Neuer 7/10
Manuel Neuer didn’t have much to do as Atletico Madrid could only muster one shot on target. The German was quite convincing with his clearances and distribution. An easy-clean sheet.
Benjamin Pavard 7.5/10
Benjamin Pavard did well to provide assistance to his central defensive partners. He also went forward whenever it was necessary, producing a competent display overall.
Niklas Sule 8.5/10
Niklas Sule’s imposing frame made it infinitely more difficult for the likes of Joao Felix and Luis Suarez to make an impact this evening. The German was completely on top of the Atleti attackers.
David Alaba 8/10
While Sule showed his strength, David Alaba’s brilliant sense of positioning and pace helped Bayern Munich keep check of the opposing attackers.
Lucas Hernandez 8/10
Lucas Hernandez continued his brilliant start to the season with yet another clinical display – this time against his former club. The Frenchman never looked troubled on the left flank.
Joshua Kimmich 9/10
Joshua Kimmich showed why he is the best number six in world football right now with yet another dominant display. The German international won the ball and opened up the Atleti defence with a sumptuous lofted pass that led to Coman’s opener. His aggression, tenacity and passing helped Bayern Munich stay on top for the entirety of the evening.
Leon Goretzka 8/10
Leon Goretzka’s tenacious presence in the middle third of the pitch fueled Bayern’s intense play this evening. Produced a clinical finish to score the second goal for his club.
Thomas Muller 7.5/10
Thomas Muller was unlucky to receive an early yellow card. But that didn’t deter his performance as the German was key in manipulating the opposing defence with his clever passes and flicks.
Corentin Tolisso 8.5/10
Corentin Tolisso enjoyed a superb evening in the advanced midfield role. The Frenchman was simply incredible in rotating possession and finding key passes in the final third. Scored the best goal of the evening with a long-range effort, effectively sealing all three points for the Bavarians.
Kingsley Coman 10/10
Kingsley Coman looked lively right from the start, scoring the opener by making a smart run in behind Kieran Trippier. He then turned into a provider for Goretzka’s goal before adding the final gloss to the scoreline by scoring Bayern’s fourth late in the second half. A perfect display of brilliance.
Robert Lewandowski 7.5/10
Robert Lewandowski wasn’t the best of Bayern players this evening, but his failure to find the back of the net did not affect his work-rate. The Pole continues to improve his chance creation under the leadership of Hansi Flick.
