Late drama unveiled at the Borrusia Park as Real Madrid came back from a two-goal deficit to snatch a point at least from their travel to Germany. Borussia Mönchengladbach were not the better side on the night, but, they took their chances, and that’s what counts at the end of the full-time whistle.
Real Madrid were on the receiving end of Marcus Thuram show in Germany. The striker scored on either side of the half time whistle and helped his side amass a two-goal lead against a side that just thrashed Barcelona 3-1 in the El Clasico.
Zidane would be a bit disappointed with the second goal, which went in rather easily. Nevertheless, his side displayed some great reliance in the closing moments of the game and scored twice in the space of five minutes to save their day.
Casemiro first set up the goal for Karim Benzema and then scored one himself. Here’s how Los Blancos rated against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Real Madrid Players Rated In Draw Vs Borussia Mönchengladbach
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 7/10
The Belgian displayed great alertness during the game and made a few crucial saves. However, he would be disappointed with the two goals that he let in.
RB: Lucas Vasquez – 8/10
A constant threat down the right-hand side and it did not really feel like Zidane did not field his preferred right back. Lucas could have done better in the first goal though, as he narrowly played Thuram onside.
CB: Raphael Varane – 7/10
Slightly off-colour, a good performance nevertheless.
CB: Sergio Ramos – 8/10
The captain made some crucial interventions and kept Real Madrid in the game. Ramos seems to be like wine, getting better with age.
LB: Ferland Mendy – 7/10
Mendy did not seem to have the best in the final third, and he played a couple of wayward passes.
CM: Federico Valverde – 8/10
A tireless performance from the Uruguayan midfielder who was igniting the spark in the Los Blancos midfield.
CM: Casemiro – 9/10
A Man of the Match deserving performance from Casemiro. The Brazilian seemed to get just about everything right. Apart from a late goal and assist, Casemiro was a huge asset to the Madrid back-line, which seemed exposed at times.
CM: Toni Kroos – 7/10
Not a good night for Kroos by his standards. The German was subbed off in the second half to be replaced by Luka Modric.
RW: Marco Asensio – 8/10
The Spaniard seems to be hitting the right form. He displayed some neat skills in the attacking third, which got him out of trouble on a decent number of occasions.
ST: Karim Benzema – 8/10
Benzema displayed why he is a great poacher. He toiled hard the entire night, and once he got that chance in the 87th minute, he just buried it away.
LW: Vinicius Jr – 7/10
A rather dull evening for the youngster who seems to be not making the right decisions at the right places and that just throws away possession and all the pressure Zidane’s side had built.
Substitutes
CM: Luka Modric – 7/10
Put on a decent performance post his introduction. Modric’s arrival did seem to bring a sense of urgency in this Real Madrid side.
LW: Eden Hazard – 7/10
Looked a bit rusty post a long injury lay off. Hazard did show a few glimpses of his former self.
RW: Rodrygo – NA
Did not have much impact post coming on late in the fixture.
