Leeds United host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday in the hopes of continuing their promising start to the campaign. This game serves as an excellent opportunity for Marcelo Bielsa to test the character of his team as he is missing out on a few key players.
Here, at The 4th Official, we will talk about three Leeds United players who could be key against Wolves tomorrow.
Robin Koch
With Diego Llorente ruled out and Liam Cooper dealing with lack of match fitness heading into this game, Robin Koch will be dealt with a daunting task of marshalling the Leeds United backline.
The German, who joined the club from SC Freiburg this summer, has had a rusty start to his Premier League career. He has, however, improved a lot in the past few matches, showcasing his ability to read the game and making strong tackles.
But with the absence of the composed head of Cooper, it will be interesting to see how Koch lives up to the task of dealing with the likes of Raul Jimenez and Daniel Podence. It is even fair to say that the German’s performance could go a long way in dictating Leeds’ fate in this fixture.
Kalvin Phillips
Kalvin Phillips will, no doubt, be key for Leeds United in this fixture for multiple reasons. Wolves usually operate with two central midfielders with Pedro Neto operating in a slightly advanced role. It doesn’t bode well for Phillips, who has predominantly featured as the lone holding midfielder for the Whites.
The Englishman is sure to receive additional support from teammate Mateusz Klich in the second line of press. But, it will be his ability to read the game and distribute possession that could shape his club’s fortunes tomorrow.
Rodrigo
Eyes will certainly be on the in-form Patrick Bamford when Leeds United host Wolves tomorrow. However, it will be interesting to see how Rodrigo Moreno fares in this fixture, having starred in the last game against Manchester City by scoring the equaliser.
The Spaniard is, without a doubt, one of the most talented members of the current Leeds United setup. He has found it a little difficult to get into the groove so far. Still, following an impressive display against Man City, the ex-Valencia star can further lift his confidence with yet another strong performance on Monday.
Not to mention, the offensive partnership between Rodrigo and Bamford will be fascinating to watch.
