Manchester City will lock horns with Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday evening looking to secure a win and progress into the next round of the EFL Cup. Pep Guardiola’s men suffered a humiliating 5-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester City last weekend. Hence, the Man City head coach will demand an encouraging response from his players when they visit Lancashire in midweek.
Guardiola will stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to make a whole host of changes to his starting XI for this upcoming cup game versus the Clarets.
4-2-3-1 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Burnley
Defence
Zack Steffen will return in goal for the Mancunian giants as Guardiola hands his first-choice keeper, Ederson a rest in midweek. Taylor Harwood-Bellis could once again get a chance to shine alongside Eric Garcia at the centre of the Man City backline. The centre-back pair will have to figure out a way to restore some stability in defence when they lace up to face the Clarets on Wednesday.
Kyle Walker might continue to feature as the right-back while Oleksandr Zinchenko comes into the side to operate as the left-back. Both of them will have to maintain a solid shape in defence and provide some decent crosses in the offensive end of the pitch.
Benjamin Mendy and Aymeric Laporte will have to settle for a spot on the bench as they provide cover for the defensive positions in midweek.
Midfield
Rodri will anchor the midfield along with Tommy Doyle as they try to provide adequate protection for their teammates at the back. The talented trio of Ferran Torres, Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden could get the nod to operate as part of Guardiola’s attack. Mahrez managed to register his name on the scoresheet with a superb strike in his last outing which will give him some confidence heading into this cup encounter at Turf Moor.
Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho could be given a rest on the bench and could come on to make an impact in the second 45 minutes if needed.
Attack
Liam Delap will get another chance to impress as the centre-forward up top amid the injury absence of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. The talented youngster found the back of the net in the last round versus Bournemouth which will keep him in high spirits ahead of this midweek clash against Burnley.
