In a recent report, Birmingham Mail mentioned that Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the brink of completing a loan move for FC Porto starlet Vitor Ferreira with the option to sign him permanently next summer. It is understood that the Liga NOS youngster, who is a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes, is set to become the 10th Portuguese player in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad (via Birmingham Mail).
Ferreira’s Majestic Rise In Portuguese Football In Recent Years
Ferreira is a product of FC Porto’s academy after making his way up the club’s youth ranks over the past few years. The 20-year-old finally managed to break out as a first-team starter at Estádio do Dragão in the previous campaign when he put in a handful of impressive cameos for Sérgio Conceição’s senior team.
The talented midfielder has so far featured in 12 senior matches for Porto, picking up one assist in the process across all competitions. However, Ferreira received only 110 minutes of playing time in Portugal last season, so a loan move to the Molineux Stadium this summer could give him a chance to make more first-team appearances at the highest level.
The Porto whizkid is primarily an attacking midfielder, but can also play in a more reserved role as a box to box midfielder or operate as a winger down the left flank if required. His outstanding versatility, coupled with his incredible potential, could make him an intelligent loan signing for Wolves ahead of the new campaign.
What Does The Portuguese Prospect Offer On The Field?
Ferreira boasts decent pace and agility that enables him to pull off some composed runs in the opposition half. He is also proficient at converting penalties when his team needs him to take a spot-kick. The five-time Portuguese U-21 international is a hard-working midfielder who can pass the ball relatively well at the centre of the park. However, the Porto wonderkid is still quite raw and would need more time to develop himself into a top-class player in his position someday.
Recruiting Ferreira On Loan: Good Deal For Wolves This Summer?
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo could be the perfect man to get the best out of Ferreira as he has nurtured plenty of Portuguese youngsters during his career as a manager. He will provide some much-needed cover for the likes of Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker at the Molineux Stadium in the upcoming campaign.
Plus, Ferreira might also help the West Midlands outfit go on a long cup run in either the League Cup or the FA Cup as he will be expected to get most of his game time in those competitions. All in all, signing Ferreira on loan seems like a good deal for Wolves in this off-season as he will be a cost-effective option for Nuno Espirito Santo to add more depth to his squad.
