Liverpool will clash heads with Lincoln City at the LNER Stadium on Thursday night hoping to pick up a win on the road and book a place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup. The Reds have made a bright start to their season after emerging victorious in their first two matches of this Premier League campaign. The Merseyside outfit will now have to concentrate on getting a positive result versus the side from League One.
Jurgen Klopp will once again opt for a 4-3-3 formation and will name a completely new first-team for this contest away at Lincolnshire.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Lincoln City
Defence
Adrian will lineup in between the sticks for the Reds as Klopp looks to hand Alisson Becker a well-deserved break following his penalty-saving heroics versus Chelsea last weekend. Nathaniel Phillips could get a chance to feature alongside Joe Gomez at the centre of the Liverpool defence as they try to restrict the Lincoln attackers from scoring in midweek.
Gomez missed the last game as a precaution but should be ready in time to start this upcoming EFL Cup game. Sepp van den Berg will provide cover for the centre-back positions on the Reds bench.
Neco Williams will fill in at right-back in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold while Konstantinos Tsimikas makes his debut on the other side as the left-back.
Midfield
The Merseyside club’s midfield could be comprised of Curtis Jones, James Milner and Marko Grujic as Klopp is expected to rest most of his first-team midfield options in midweek. The talented trio will look to dominate the ball in midfield and cook up some decent goal-scoring chances in the opposition half.
Georginio Wijnaldum and Harry Wilson might be available for selection on Klopp’s bench.
Attack
Diogo Jota could get a chance to make his debut for Liverpool down the left flank after signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers last week. Takumi Minamino will fill in on the other side as the right-sided wide player. Divock Origi will get the responsibility to lead the charge for the reigning Premier League champions down the middle.
All three Liverpool attackers are quite versatile as they can play anywhere across the frontline. Hence, we can expect them to interchange positions during the match and cause all kinds of problems for the Lincoln defenders on Thursday night.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be rested, but Harvey Elliott should be available for a place on the bench as he awaits his opportunity to come on and influence the game in the second half if required.
