According to ChronicleLive, Tottenham have been in contact with Joshua King’s agent over a potential transfer to north London this summer. The Bournemouth striker has become a hot topic in the market following his club’s relegation last season and a switch to Spurs could be on the horizon, with the club’s officials meeting the player’s agents earlier this week.
However, the Lilywhites could face stiff competition from Newcastle United in the pursuit of King, with Steve Bruce also being a fan of the dynamic attacker.
What Can King Bring To The Table?
King is widely regarded as a modern-day attacker, who is blessed with excellent positional sense and can craft scoring opportunities for his team. He makes intelligent movements in and around the penalty area but is versatile enough to feature in a wider role.
Last season, for example, the Norwegian international averaged over one key pass per game in the Premier League. It was combined with two successful dribbles per game, which is indicative of the player’s ability to drift past defenders and providing a spark in the final third.
King might not be the most productive players around, but, despite being a secondary striker by trade, he can operate in the centre-forward role. He made 26 attempts on goal last season, the majority of which came from inside the box.
Not to mention, the Bournemouth ace is a physically and aerially competent attacker, notably winning 2.3 headed duels per game during the 2019/20 campaign.
Is King An Ideal Option For Spurs?
Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need for attacking reinforcements, especially in the number nine slot where Harry Kane is the only option. King, in that regard, might not be a bad choice.
In fact, the Norwegian international could even be a better option than his Bournemouth teammate Callum Wilson, who is also a target for Spurs. It is primarily because of his industry and work-rate in the final third that makes him an ideal fit for Jose Mourinho’s tactical philosophy.
Although the 28-year-old might not be as lethal going forward, he can provide another dimension to Spurs’ attacking game. He can create a good combination with the likes of Son Heung-Min and Steven Bergwijn, both of whom are capable of getting into the box and score goals.
King, in that regard, should be able to act as a catalyst in the attack while he can also cover Kane, who has had problems with injuries over the past couple of years, making the Bournemouth star a valuable signing for the Lilywhites this summer.
