According to Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in signing Bas Dost. The Eintracht Frankfurt forward has emerged as the latest target for Jose Mourinho who is desperate to sign a back-up for Harry Kane. Dost is set to cost somewhere around £5.5 million, with Mourinho identifying him as a hard-working striker who can get the job done.
Bas Dost: The Forward Tottenham Need?
Ever since his breakout at VfL Wolfsburg, Dost has impressed the onlookers with his determination and work-rate. He is someone who can work hard for his team, with his willingness to close down the opposing defenders making him an effective outlet in the first line of press.
Another key asset in Dost’s game is his towering 1.96m frame making him one of the tallest forwards in Europe. His imposing frame makes him very competent in the air while also allowing him to hold his own in a physical duel. Such qualities bode well for any Premier League forward.
Moreover, the Dutchman has a wealth of experience at the highest level of football. After playing 117 matches for Wolfsburg, the forward had an excellent spell at Sporting CP, scoring almost 100 goals in 127 games. He has racked up over 100 Bundesliga matches as well, scoring 44 goals.
How Has He Performed In The Bundesliga?
Dost returned to the Bundesliga last summer, joining Eintracht in a €7 million move from Sporting CP. He was brought in to offer more physicality in the attack, especially following the departure of Sebastien Haller to West Ham.
The Dutchman didn’t disappoint, either, for the most part, scoring eight goals in 24 matches. His physical and aerial prowess was useful for the Eagles, though the club only used Dost as their primary alternative for Andre Silva and Goncalo Paciencia.
Is He A Viable Option?
Bas Dost might not be the most accomplished striker in Europe, but he has a certain lethal quality about him that makes him an efficient goalscorer. It is combined with his massive frame and aggression, which should be useful under the tactical philosophy of Jose Mourinho.
Dost’s ability to find the back of the net should make him an ideal alternative for Kane at Tottenham. Moreover, his style of play should allow Mourinho to employ a plan B, with wingers like Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura providing the aerial supply from the wider areas, with the Dutchman operating as a target man. And for a fee of just £5.5 million, he could be no less than a bargain for the Lilywhites.
