Arsenal advanced through to the next round of the Carabao Cup by securing a comfortable 2-0 win over Leicester City tonight. The Gunners were largely in control of the game despite lacking a bit of penetration. They were clinging on to a narrow lead scored by Christian Fuchs via an own goal before a late second from Eddie Nketiah sealed the victory.
Arsenal Player Ratings Vs Leicester City
Bernd Leno 7/10
Bernd Leno was barely tested after making an impressive early save to deny Kelechi Iheanacho. He was lucky to have James Maddison’s shot hit the post, though.
Rob Holding 7/10
Rob Holding was rather competent when dealing with the threat of Leicester City attackers. He kept his cool and used his strength and aerial prowess to keep things tidy at the back.
David Luiz 7/10
David Luiz picked up a slight knock early in the game. But that didn’t deter the Brazilian from soldiering on, marshalling the Arsenal backline in what was a well-deserved clean sheet.
Sead Kolasinac 5/10
Once again starting at centre-back, Sead Kolasinac was simply not good enough. His weak right foot made it difficult for him to efficiently play out from the back while his forward passes were not clinical enough.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles 6/10
Ainsley Maitland-Niles had an average night out on the right flank. He wasn’t much involved as one would expect but provided decent support to his defensive teammates.
Mohamed Elneny 7/10
Put in a great shift in central midfield, creating a few crucial turnovers. The Egyptian is turning into an excellent back-up option for Mikel Arteta.
Joe Willock 7/10
Joe Willock had a rusty first-half, often lacking creativity. However, the Englishman looked disciplined as the game progressed, and he did eventually start to pull strings in the second half before making way for Dani Ceballos during the final phase of the game.
Bukayo Saka 7.5/10
Starting at left wingback, Bukayo Saka eventually became the focal point of the Arsenal attack due to his ingenuity in the final third. He linked up well with his teammates and was a constant menace for the Leicester City defence. Unlucky not to score a goal himself.
Nicolas Pepe 6.5/10
Nicolas Pepe offered very little out on the far side. But, it was his industry and quick-feet that saw Fuchs scoring an own goal in the second half.
Eddie Nketiah 7/10
Always sharp and willing to run, Eddie Nketiah had a decent outing in the number nine role. The youngster was hungry for goals, and he got it in the end, in the dying embers of the match.
Reiss Nelson 6/10
Tried to make things happen on the left flank but lacked the guile and the penetration to cause any problems for the Leicester City backline.
SUBSTITUTES
Willian 5.5/10
Replaced Nelson in the 72nd minute but failed to offer anything that could have really troubled the Leicester City backline.
Dani Ceballos 6/10
Orchestrated the game after coming on for Willock during the final phase of the match.
Hector Bellerin 7.5/10
A late substitute for Saka, Hector Bellerin made an immediate impact on the proceedings, with his amazing solo run eventually leading to Arsenal’s second goal, scored by Nketiah.
