In a recent report, Marca has mentioned that Real Madrid are ready to rival Paris Saint-Germain for Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer. It is believed that Los Blancos are trying their best to acquire the services of the French midfield ace but won’t consider signing him during this ongoing transfer window due to the dire economic complications brought about by the recent COVID-19 crisis (via Marca).
Camavinga’s Incredible Rise At The The Roazhon Park
The Rennes whizkid has already made an impressive start to this campaign after scoring one goal and picking up one assist in two appearances for his current employers in the Ligue 1. The 17-year-old impressed a lot of people with his solid performances at the heart of Julien Stéphan’s midfield last season when he registered one goal and two assists in 36 matches across various competitions.
Camavinga proved his worth as the French club’s primary defensive midfielder as he averaged 4.2 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.6 shots and 0.8 dribbles per game in the 2019-20 French top-flight campaign. He also took care of the ball when distributing it from the centre of the park as evident from his pass completion rate of 87.7% in league football (stats via whoscored).
The French teenager is one of the most promising youngsters in Europe at the moment, so it would be a massive coup for Real Madrid if they can find a way to win the race for his signature next summer.
What Will The French Wonderkid Add To Zinedine Zidane’s Side?
Camavinga is not afraid to get stuck in with a few tackles so that he can earn the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He is an excellent passer of the ball and can tidy things up defensively when his teammates need him to offer some added cover at the back. The French prospect has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday as he has got all the skillset required to taste success at the top level.
Zidane needs to build a squad for the long-run if he intends to establish his team as one of the European superpowers once again in the coming years. Camavinga fits the bill perfectly as he will provide some healthy competition for the likes of Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, Casemiro and Lucas Vasquez at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the future. He could also serve as an ideal long-term replacement for Luka Modric at the Spanish club.
At 17, Camavinga is still quite inexperienced at the highest level, but if Zidane is willing to be patient with his development, then he should get adequate time to fulfil his potential at the Spanish capital. Hence, it makes sense for Los Blancos to splash the cash to bring the French youngster to the Bernabeu at the end of this new campaign.
