The Telegraph (subscription required) has recently mentioned that Real Madrid are ready to pay off Gareth Bale to sanction his exit this summer. It is understood that Los Blancos are prepared to cover half of the Welsh winger’s wages to get him out of the club and potentially move to the Premier League during this summer transfer window (via The Telegraph).
Bale’s Injury Plagued Campaign In Spanish Football
The 31-year-old had a difficult season in La Liga last term when he struggled to give a good account of himself as part of Zinedine Zidane’s frontline. The Cardiff-born speedster missed a lot of games in the previous campaign because of multiple injuries which have hampered his career at the Spanish capital.
Bale got three goals and two assists to his name in 20 appearances for Los Blancos in the last term across multiple competitions. He ended the 2019-20 season with an average of 2.1 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Spanish top-flight. The experienced Welsh international even managed to interchange possession well with his teammates in the final third after completing 79.1% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Bale has fallen out of favour with his boss Zidane, so it is no surprise that the Madrid giants are willing to pay him out of their own pocket to orchestrate his departure in this off-season. Both the player and the club can benefit from parting ways with each other sooner rather than later in search of greener pastures in the coming years.
What Does The Welsh Wing Wizard Offer On The Pitch?
Bale has lost some of his quickness and sharpness over the past couple of years as he is currently entering in the twilight years of his career. However, when firing on all cylinders, the 83-time Welsh international can be a delight to watch as he can create chances out of nothing and possesses the ability to win a match on his own as well.
The ex-Tottenham Hotspur attacker needs to improve his fitness so that he can turn his career around away from the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next season. He seems to be surplus to requirements at Madrid, so it’s high time that Real Madrid got rid of him permanently as he is disrupting the chemistry of their squad.
Real Madrid Ready To Pay Half Of Bale’s Wages To Ensure His Exit: Good Move By Zidane?
It feels like Zidane has made the right call by deciding to cut Bale out of his squad even if it means paying 50% of his wages to make it happen this summer. The Welshman’s departure will finally allow Los Blancos to move on and fill in their squad with some world-class players next summer when they are likely to be in a better financial position than right now.
