Leicester City faced off against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns earlier today hoping to begin their Premier League campaign with a win on the road. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but struggled to break each other down as they went into the half-time break with nothing to split them.
Timothy Castagne broke the deadlock after the half-time break to give his team the lead before Jamie Vardy made the points secure with his successful penalty in the 74th minute. The English forward added one more to the score via another spot-kick to give Leicester a comfortable 3-0 victory today.
Let’s take a look at how each Leicester player fared during the contest versus the Baggies.
GK: Kasper Schmeichel – 7/10
The Foxes goalie hardly had a save to make in the game as the West Brom attackers failed to test him too many times during the 90 minutes.
RB: Timothy Castagne – 8/10
The Belgian full-back opened the goal-scoring with an excellent header from close range. Put in an impressive showing on his debut for the East Midlands outfit.
CB: Wilfred Ndidi – 7/10
He took his time to settle into the game but did well to step up and give a good account of himself as a makeshift centre-back.
CB: Caglar Soyuncu – 7/10
Soyuncu was calm and collected throughout the game and did enough to restrict the opposition from scoring today.
LB: James Justin – 6/10
The English youngster was caught out of position too many times in the first 45 minutes and was guilty of committing some cheap fouls which saw him get a caution. However, he put on a much better display after the half-time break and was the one responsible for earning the second penalty for Leciester which put the contest to bed.
CDM: Nampalys Mendy – 7/10
He managed to help Leicester establish their dominance at the centre of the park and distributed the ball relatively well during the game.
LM: Harvey Barnes – 7/10
Barnes made several promising runs down the left flank but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. He will be hoping for more productive days out in the Premier League.
CM: Dennis Praet – 8/10
The Belgian talent ran the show in midfield and caused all sorts of problems for the opposition through his excellent passing and energy going forward.
CM: Youri Tielemans – 6/10
Tielemans was not afraid to get on the ball but struggled to create too many meaningful openings in the attacking third.
RM: Ayoze Perez – 5.5/10
The former Newcastle United player lacked sharpness, and it showed in his performance today. He needs to raise his game or else risk losing his first-team place in the coming weeks.
ST: Jamie Vardy – 7.5/10
The English striker failed to get into the game in the first half but stepped to convert two penalties in the second which gave his team maximum points away at the Hawthorns.
Substitutes:
RM: Marc Albrighton – 6/10
He brought some energy onto the field.
CM: James Maddison – 6/10
The ex-Coventry City player showed some nice touches after coming off the bench for the final 15 minutes.
